So is this good or great news?? Former starting point guard for Michigan?! That's pretty impressive in my books.

Any time we can steal one away from the big10 that's good news, but it's hard to tell if it is great or not. Looks like she started the first 6 games last season as a soph, but then got minimal minutes after that. Averaged 12 minutes & 2.8 pts per game. Only 8 assists all season.

Should have 2 years of eligibility and will add needed depth to the back court, so hopefully she can blossom at UT.

Oh, and for the track fans, as a junior in HS she finished 4th in the state at the long jump.

Unfortunately for track, there is no way she would ever end up stepping foot on the track. But this is a nice get for the women's team!

A couple years ago Johnson did both track and hoops, high jumping pretty well as well as starting at forward for the women hoopsters.

I think that Johnson literally only jumped in one meet and quit. I remember being excited for them because they signed her and then the following year's Ohio D1 Hj champion in the Sutherland girl from Maumee. Johnson didnt stick with it.

I knew she quit but I thought she competed pretty much one whole season. What interested me was that she was allowed to compete. Coaches tend to be touchy about players getting hurt in other sports.

This is going back a ways, but there was a men's basketball player who high-jumped a little bit. I think his name was Mike Herman, but I could be getting it wrong. I think the guy jumped around 7'0" or close to it. And of course Sonnenberg was a great high-jumper, but I don't think he jumped any for UT.

Wow that is an interesting get. Wish I knew more why she was leaving. Playing time???

Yes. Sits out next season, then has two years to play.

I thinkk Sonnenberg did juump one year at UT. NCAA tJ champ Aaron Hopkiins also played hoops aand missed a game once after injuuring his ELBOW on the rim. Anna Capotostoo was a state champ in the 800 m I believe and also high jumped.

Not only did Sonnenberg jump at UT, he won the MAC HJ as a freshman. I believe he jumped several years for UT, if not all 4.

Thought the same thing. Extrapolating a continued growth rate equivalent to the current rate until, say, age 14 she'll be about 6'5". Can you say "Stephanie Vivenot"?


By the way, I just added my first Wikipedia thing- they had an entry for Vivenot but no reference to her UT playing days.
