My head might explode if we choose to go to one in Dubai.

You guys could sure use the paycheck. Then you wouldn't have to sell your home game with Nebraska back to the Huskers for a paycheck.

At least we picked a bowl game.

(06-11-2013 06:26 PM)Side Show Joe Wrote:  At last month's SEC spring meetings, SEC commissioner Mike Slive said his league "probably but not exclusively" preferred to play the other Power Five leagues going forward in the bowls. Sources said the reason is simple: The teams from the bigger leagues draw better television ratings and have bigger fan bases to travel.

After reading this, I'm very glad C-USA was able to ink a long term deal to bring a P5 team to the Heart of Dallas Bowl. It also doesn't look like we will be able to keep the Military Bowl after this season.

If this article is accurate, the AAC might not be able to strike a bowl deal with a P5 conference. I'd love it if C-USA could land another bowl against a P5. To do it, we'd need to have something to offer, just like we did with the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Recruiting and T.V. market, with a legendary stadium (Cotton Bowl) in a football crazy location.

Don't get me wrong, I think Boca and Arkansas are nice, but I don't know if either of those locations would interest any of the P5 conferences.

We need to make the P5's an offer they can't refuse. C-USA needs to buy the rights to the Bluebonnet Bowl (even if it means paying off the old bowls debts). Hold the game at Rice Stadium (that's where it started in 1959) and play it in prime time on December 31st. If C-USA owns the bowl and sets it up like they did the Dallas Bowl, I think it would be attractive to a P5 conference. At the very least, I'd think the ACC would want in on this. Thoughts?

Depends on how we're lined up with that P5. Even before we joined, seeing C-USA #1 lining up against SEC #8 always rubbed me the wrong way. It's just as bad as seeing the MLS All-Stars take on a single European club each year.

Perception is everything, and this is beyond just a perception: its an admission that the best of our best is only as good as their middle-of-the-road.

If we're finding our #2 or #3 against a P5 #6 or #7 each year, that's one thing... but our Champion ought to be playing another Champion, plain and simple. C-USA #1 vs. MWC #1 looks a hell of a lot better than C-USA #1 vs. SEC #8 and MWC #1 vs. Pac-12 #5.

I understand the point you are making, and if the agenda of the P5 were the same as it has always been, I'd even agree with you. I believe our champ should be playing the best team we can match them up against. From everything I'm reading, it seems like most, if not all of the P5s are moving towards only playing other P5s in non conference games, and only lining up other P5 conferences for their bowl games. If this becomes the new model of top level college football, games against P5 teams will be at a premium for the G5. Having two bowls against P5 conferences will be a huge advantage at a time when many G5 conferences can't even get one. I believe P5 teams that end the season bowl illegible will have played a strong schedule and be a very good program. I think in this situation, a Big 12 #7 Texas Tech, or West Virginia that is 7-5, is still be a better option then playing the MWC or AAC champ.

The C-USA #1 playing an SEC #8 would not be a problem, other then our champ not getting into the playoff. In the new model a #8 SEC program will be a very good team. We just need to win that match up consistently. If C-USA can run up the score consistently, then it becomes a problem for the SEC, and the SEC would probably send a higher ranked team to the bowl. Though I don't think we could get the SEC to sign a bowl agreement. The ACC is probably the best option for a new bowl in Houston.

RE: Bowls Games in Dubai????
I don't like our no.1s playing someone like an 8 in another conference I don't care which conference it is. Perception is a big thing and doing this is relegating that cusa teams' accomplishments to nothing. Let's play an ACK no.1 or a MWC no. 1, it doesn't matter which conference.

Now, another thing, if that no.8 is ranked then it won't matter. What I don't want to see is some mediocre no.8.

College Football should stay in the Western Hemisphere, the northern half of it to be more specific.

I absolutely agree with this. You could bring a soccer or cricket tourny over here with whatever is the D2 equivelent of college or club soccer teams in Europe and 99% of the public in America couldn't tell you a difference. I highly doubt even less people in the middle east could tell you anything about college football.

I say who cares though as long as they pay the money and can get some people to show up. I think it's a pretty awesome idea. Beats friggen Mobile Alabama.

Guarandamntee you that there are many more Americans know the difference between Manchester United and AFC Wimbledon than there are... ummm... Dubains? that know the difference between Ohio State and Utah State.

Now, as far as cricket is concerned... I think the number of Americans that could name a single cricket team in any country may only slightly outnumber the number of Tony Stewart Fan Club members in Siberia.

That's just 'cause your team gets ass-whipped in Mobile. GMAC, Mobile Alabama, Go-Daddy .... whoever the sponsor is, puts on a nice bowl game and good events.
