UNT's First 2013 Camp Draws 400
The Mean Green's first summer camp of 2013 had around 400 high school players at Apogee Stadium (up from 200 last year). Players from Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana as well as Texas attended.

That cant be UNT's stadium. There is steel construction there. They would never use steel construction as it is cheap looking.

I really like UNT's stadium. What is the seating capacity? As far as new schools stadiums, UNT's is my fav, followed by MTSU's.

How exactly are you going to make a concrete wing? You'll also notice the steel holds up concrete, which is also held up by concrete posts. The rest of the stadium is concrete. For proper support, steel was necessary in the wing.

I know you're just joking, but still. 07-coffee3

No way. We love the Wing Zone. Get way more compliments than complaints and it's a signature for the stadium. Everyone knows about the Wing Zone in the area. Makes it look like a way bigger stadium than it actually is. A horseshoe would be boring.

The wing zone photographs HORRIBLY, but once you see it in person it's completely different.

It is designed to be, but no need to build it so big that it looks like a ghost town early on if UNT did not get out of the Belt or if for some how attendance projects fall flat. It is set to be expanded in phases that can be finished in a single offseason with much of the underlying support structure already poured and in place. Part of the price of building it was making sure the support structures were in place to expand becasue of the time and cost it takes to do it after the fact.

Essentially the architecturals were leaked, or rather found by someone on the GMG board, because there was RFP out for some work and they included the entire set of prints on the RFP page. So on a side note, keep an eye on your unviersity's request fo bid/proposal pages anf you might get a set of prints to your stadium or arena.. We are already on the look out for the prints for the baseball facility. If you know how to read prints the expansions are pretty easy to see. Combine that with what the AD has said about the potential to expand and the schedule and timeline is pretty easy to figure out.

The Wing is designed to be unbolted and the lower base is at the same height as the bases for either side of the stadium. That I think is either the 1st or 2nd phase of expansion, but I think they would add the expansion on the student side first. The other thing to notice is that the heights line up for the student side to have an expansion of seats and set of luxury boxes to be built to mirror the other side and would allow for it to completely wrap around in a horeshoe as far as luxury boxes go. From there it would be a second deck on both sides.

I think the first add would push the capacity to the low 40's and then the making it a shoe would put it into the 50's. Any extra decks after that would be at a much greater cost and not designed to get done in a single offseason like the first two stages are designed to be.

The Wing Zone's removal has NEVER been included in ANY expansion possibilities. Any removal of the Wing would result in a dramatic drop in seating that a wrap-around horseshoe wouldn't fix. Notice that the Wing is part of the logo and that the brick in the area (and the bridge) is all in the shape of the Wing Zone.

Upper deck on student side pulls it to 45K.

Any plans detailing the Wing Zone's removal were due to a UNT grad's (architect) possible addition ideas, as you can see his video on YouTube.

Oh good, so FAU's stadium is now concrete as well then. We have concrete supports holding up the steel construction as well as the entire piority deck is concrete floor patterned and colored to make it look like wood flooring. Along with the entire tower and concourse buildings are concrete as well. Now UNT folks can stop ripping it. 07-coffee3

Sorry if I come out chippy but this "bias" against steel construction is just stupid and comes off childish. UNT has a beautiful facility made out of concrete and steel. FAU has a beautiful facility made out of steel and concrete. Both are most likely among the top in CUSA due to thier newness.

And grats on the camp, thats a lot of young kids in the stadium seeing first hand UNT's commitment to Football.

It's not made out of steel or erector set at all, like FAU. I've seen FAU's stadium. It's an erector set, almost full steel. UNT's is all concrete with steel supports of concrete in the Wing Zone.

The wing section will look superb when its full of fans and won't that happen for sure when La Tech comes to town in 2014? 04-cheers

The Wing Section was not UNT's idea (albeit they signed off on it) but rather HKS Architects who also built "Jerrys World" for his
"D" Cowboys and I think UH is using them for their new stadium).

The HKS designers and their Wing idea were being a bit too creative for my simpleton eyes, but once again....when you see pics of it full of fans will it look so bad? I've sat in that "Wing" and the sight lines are better than the 50 yard line seats at old Fouts Field.

Still, 2 of my favorite of all Apogee Stadium percs are how the stands are right on top of the opposing teams sidelines bench plus...... its magnificent accoustics.

Forget concrete or steel beam erector set talk, but which CUSA school will be the first one to build a new stadium out of legos?02-13-banana
