Just make sure that when Louisville officially joins the ACC that doesn't pull a "Miami" and fall off the map (see Canes' football for Peoples' exhibit "A").

Congrats to the Cardinals.
Congrats, also, to the Red & White of NC State

We willl try...it is an upgrade overall especially in Football & Baseball...but long term we will be a player in the ACC...Look @ the Virginia Tech model as a transition from the BIG EAST to the ACC in Football...not the Hurricanes.

28 November 2012...ACC Invites Louisville to join their conference...little did anyone know that is/was the last available life rift to a P5 Conference.

Sugar Bowl...Curb Stomp then 3rd Nationally Ranked SEC Florida.

Wins the NCAA Men's Basketball Title

Make the NCAA Women's Title Game...along the way has the biggest upset in NCAA Tournament history by beating #1 & Defending National Champion Britany Griner/Baylor

Make the College World Series by beating/sweeping Vanderbilt in Nashville...the Commodores were ranked most of the year #1 & had won the most SEC Baseball Games in history.

Becomes the 1st school in History to win a BCS Bowl Game, make the Men's & Women Final Four in Basketball & make the CWS...A truly historic and unforgettable year for L1C4..COGS04-cheersCOGS

Enjoy it, man. Enjoy the hell out of it.

I will be 56 years old next month.

In the Seventies, I was in my teens and early Twenties.

As a fan of Notre Dame, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers, here were the Seventies for me:

1) Notre Dame:

National Champions in 1973 and 1977.

Coached by Ara Parseghian and Dan Devine. Won many major bowl games against the likes of Alabama, Penn State, Texas, etc.. Ranked in the Top Five or Top Ten many of those years. Always a national title contender.

ND basketball made the Final Four in 1978.

2) Pittsburgh Pirates:

World Series champions in 1971 and 1979.

National League Eastern Division champions in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974, 1975 and 1979. Contenders for the division most other years.

3) Pittsburgh Steelers:

Super Bowl winners in 1974, 1975, 1978 and 1979.

AFC Central Divsion Champions 1972, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979.

I was able to attend both a World Series game in October 1979 and the AFC Championship game in December 1979 at Three Rivers Stadium.

I was 22 years old in 1979. I just thought that the above results were the natural order of things and would continue the same way the rest of my life.

The reality?

ND has won exactly one National Championship since 1977 (1988).

The Pirates have not won a World Series since 1979. They had some success in the 1987-1992 time frame, but have had 20 straight losing seasons since 1992.

The Steelers have won Super Bowls in 2005 and 2008 but have not had nearly the success they had wining four Super Bowls in six years in the Seventies.

Things can change drastically in sports. I believe that everything is cyclical. Things can come back around.

But, enjoy the run by Louisville. It may happen again, but it may not.

Congrats on an overall fantastic season.

Terry...we will enjoy it and realize it is fleeting...we remember 16 years ago UofL was basically kicked out of C-USA, Basketball under NCAA investigation, went 1-10 in Football while playing in a runned down Triple A Baseball Park and no real facilities.

Sounds a lot like me between 1975 and 1986, but just with UofL. Seemed like we were in the Final Four more often than not. We won two titles and should have won three, but God granted The Wizard of Westwood another title in his last tourney. But in 1987 we began a near 20-year drought.

Your Steelers and Irish droughts appear well past over. But I'm afraid the Pirates will never return to their "We Are Family" heyday.

I can't believe the St Louis Cardinals pulled their Triple A Redbird team out of Louisville, and don't really know the reasons why, but they had the highest Triple A attendance in the USA.....like 35,000 per game. Great sports town all the way around.04-bow

You never know what will happen, Kent State made it last year giving the MAC a representative for the first time in a long time and Stony Brook also got in the CWS. First year that 2 "northern" teams have been in since I can remember. Just goes to show what strong financial support from alumni can do for a program (Joe Nathan, Closer with the TX Rangers, formerly MN Twins) donated a large sum to Stony Brook.

Throw in the distinction of getting the prestigious honor of having a bottom 10 APR in football and the year is complete!

Lol, totally kidding. Certainly a great time for the city of Louisville and the university.

Amusing piece in the LA Times comparing the 2013 CWS field to the 1975 NCAA basketball tournament field.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/...6896.story

Quote:This is the College World Series?

The eight-team tournament, which begins Saturday in Omaha, could be the 1975 NCAA basketball tournament.

UCLA, Louisville, Indiana, North Carolina, Oregon State in both.

Louisville is done. Time to take your silly white cardinal hats and head home. Maybe you can take some time to go to one of the boring museums in town like the Slugger Museum or Ali Museum. Her uncle is from Louisville and is constantly trying to get us to come to Louisville to see this silly attractions. I got a big time casino, major league baseball, NFL football and major college sports in Cincinnati. Why would I want to see these silly museums in Louisville ??? Am I missing something???

Hell, I haven't been to any of them either. I'm a classic Muscle car and Street rod type Guy and go to Cruises and Car Shows on the Weekends. Bored with non Auto museums. Any way, great last year in the Real Big East. R.I.P. Beast !

You guys did have a great year. Cincinnati has just now decided they want a good baseball team. One bad reason the breakup of Louisville with Cincinnati in the same league is it breaks up our chief rival. We got nobody to push us to get better. What is it now Memphis?? We need Louisville to keep us striving for more.
