I personally love the new football uniforms. I hope the 2-3 helmet options all appeal to recruits as well. Our brand standard should be that of blue and grey in whatever combination appeals the most to future elite student athletes.

It's all about the almighty dollar these days, and corporations run everything. I hate to see our university, and any other university, be so danged afraid to do business with a sponsor. It's disgusting to me, too, GA.

It is silly how a few dolts think we are unique in this aspect: I have provided two links of other schools that have several colors of blue merchandise for sale, it is normal. GA is a one note complainer who constantly disparages our University and the administration and one of our largest sponsors over a made up 'problem' that every school experiences...

I think he means well, but he does nothing but tear down our University. (on this subject)

I agree. The whole thing is frustrating as hell. No matter how many times its explained and then explained again and again, it just doesn't register in some brains. One more time.....ALL SCHOOLS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. They will always have this problem. Just in the past few years there have been 336 NEW PMS colors, giving PMS a grand total of 1,677 colors.

GA, if I were you, for my own well-being, I would contact Nike and either set up an appointment here locally with a rep or call Corporate and hope to find someone that might be able to answer your questions. Hopefully, if you get the right knowledgeable person, you can ask about the colors and they can explain why they use the colors they do. http://help-en-us.nike.com/app/landing/contact

Nothing is going to work, Miss J. If GA were to ever get this done then he'd be ranting about ESPN, ABC, and CBS needing to adjust their cameras because the Blue on our jersey doesn't show as true PMS 280 on his TV.

No it does not. Blues look lighter on TV. "Calipari Blue" is already significantly lighter than the dark blue called for by the brand standard, was intended in 1912 and worn by the teams of Murphy, Bartow, Dockery and Bailey. On TV, it appears so much lighter that it is sickening. We have John Calipari and Bob Winn to thank for approving Nike's current shade of blue.

Cal's teams didn't even wear Nike until his last season here. So much for that theory.

That action alone doesn't have the desired effect. Certainly we should not buy Memphis merchandise made in the wrong colors (unfortunately most of it is) but unless the manufacturers and merchants KNOW why the stuff isn't selling, they simply assume that our fanbase is weak and we will merely see less Memphis stuff with no improvement in appearance.

But they were wearing the same shade of blue. It isn't a theory. I learned this from a high-ranking university official. The same individual divulged that the efforts to replace gray with black originated with Calipari (with Winn's enthusiastic support). Light royal and black was his choice and he did not care that the brand standard (and tradition, with inconsistencies notwithstanding) calls for dark blue and medium gray.

The university should be ashamed for failing to honor and capitalize upon our oldest tradition and potentially very valuable asset. It is long past time for the athletic department to get on the same page with the university. This leads me back to the original question of this thread: WHY in hell won't someone tell Nike??? 03-banghead All I am asking for is a darker shade of blue and gray instead of black. Don't tell me that is impossible.

And like I've said over and over and over, why can't you set up an appointment with a Nike rep and find out yourself. I'm sure they have their reasons and maybe then you would be able to understand. How freakin hard is that ?

Maybe so. I was referring to the crowd. I know I see a sea of blue when viewing on TV. Seems like a lighter blue would be a much more distinguishable color than a dark blue. Whether that matters to anyone, I don't know. Probably not.
