RE: BBQ wars ... Texas declares itself the winner.
I was just in KC. There's not one spot in Houston that can touch it. Of the things I love about my hometown, barbecue is something I've always felt was done better elsewhere. Like the above poster, I'd have died long ago if I lived in Central TX. Could eat that for breakfast, lunch, & dinner. Now, I'm craving.

For my money it is Bright Leaf from Carolina Packers in Smithfield. All hot dogs should be red.COGS

Nothing is better than a Nathan's, check google for the best tasting hot dog. I have the only Nathan's Hot Dog Cart in eastern NC because no vendor wants to pay the price they cost. A quarter pounder cost $ .80 while a Sabrett cost $ .21 & a Brightleaf cost $ .11.

Spot on, up to #6. I wouldn't put Houston that high. I love Rudy's (who we can't even claim as our own), but many of the spots in Houston have too much of a Mexican influence. Goode Co. is garbage, IMO. Luling is decent. I don't know, maybe there are places I'm not aware of.

Central TX is absofreakin'lutely amazing. I would die of a massive coronary at the age of 30 if I lived out there.

I would agree with list but put Oklahoma at #1. No one does it better. Perfect mix of KC and Texas BBQ. Plus we are one of the few places that does smoked bologne, you havent lived until you have had a good smoked bologne.

Pretty much 80% of Memphis BBQ places do Bologna. I like Chuck's though Interstate kills on that as well (like everything else they do).

Hebrew National blows Nathans away, if you can take a little garlic. CT has no real BBQ, except what I make on the weber kettle, but we have great hot dog places everywhere you look.

In Fairfield, CT there is Super Duper Weenie (as seen on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives). And just a few miles away (in Westport) is the Black Duck, also shown on DDD.

I too thought Nathan's was the best hot dog in existence, and they are great. After grilling Hebrew National the last couple of times, I have to agree. They are both absolutely outstanding hot dogs, but I'd give Hebrew National the edge.

I'd love to be at Whitey's hot dog stand right now for a good dog.

I've tried Nathan's and Hebrew National but Bright Leaf is by far the best I've ever had. Of course, like barbeque and lots of other things it has more to do with what you grow up with than anything else. But for a hot dog to be a hot dog it really needs to be red.04-cheers

Things invented in Connecticut:

1) typewriters
2) insurance
3) the cotton gin (which changed the South)
4) toothpaste tubes
5) the helicopter
6) the "LP" (long playing record album)
7) hamburgers
8) Wiffle Ball
9) the Frisbee
10) the steamboat
11) vulcanized rubber
12) the revolver (handgun)
13) the retractable tape measure
14) the first functional, local telephone system

Oh, and human flight 05-stirthepot

I hate to say this but in Germany they had a blind taste test with 2,500 people from all over the world & over 300 different hot dogs. Hebrew National 97% Fat Free won by 9 votes over Nathan's but Nathan's & Nathan's Skinless came in 2nd & 4th. I also agree that Hebrew National is a damn good hot dog. If you like pork Bright Leaf is by far the best. Forgot to say that I sell 2 quarter pound Nathan's for $5 or a single for $2.75. My dad had an old saying that a greedy dollar never sees another.
