Dang dude...that sucks...sorry. You'll hate me for my story. Pain hit at 11:45 pm and increased...by 12:30 I was in the ER. By 1:15ish I was given some low level pain meds that gave me comfort. Around 2ish the pain started back and I was given morphine. Got a CT Scan around 2:30 and went home around 4:30 or so. I wasn't in pain after that morphine shot...maybe a bit at home but I took some oxi and all was well. Passed it around 8 or 9 the next morning. So in all I think I had pain for maybe 2 hours or so and I passed the stone within 9 hours of first pain.

No hate here.....those little sand grains are painful. They gave me low level hydrocodone but I had already passed it. Basically, the hospital botched my treatment in every way possible and I paid for it.

I'm not sure which is the most painful, but as long as they let you be a member of the Morphine Club, I can handle any of them. In addition, in the words of one of my favorite people, “I don’t want to belong to any club that would accept me as one of its members.”

Funny thing about that shower. I made the grave mistake of trying to take a warm bath the first two times I had one, thinking it would help relax me and, thereby, ease the contractions of the kidney and the pain. Well, that warmth made it way worse.

I, too, had to wait in an ER once for more than four hours. Now it is law that they have to ask you your pain on the 1-10 scale and deal with it, even if it is not life-threatening. They used to get by by telling you they had to deal with the gunshots and heart attacks first. I told them to check my BP, which was 190 over 150 at the time, and that I was about to HAVE a heart attack.

I've had a twisted ankle which was in the "neighborhood" of kidney stone pain, and a toothache that literally had me banging my head against a wall, but the only other pain that ever approached kidney stone pain was an epidural shot right into the nerve of my back, three pregnancies. By the third one, I had to get a strong nurse to literally pin me to a wall while they did it, while holding my hand. I apologized profusely for brusing her little hand. I'm just glad I didn't break it.

The Med botched my treatment by leaving me in pain for 5 hours. At one point, I threatened to have my daughter drive me down the street and call an ambulance to come and take me through the ER, so I could get seen.

And then they couldn't put an IV in. Apparently, I had become dehydrated by then. Stuck me literally 12 times, including the back of my hand. That's WAY out of allowed protocol before they have to do a cut-down. Almost forgot my kidney pain.

At one point, I wanted to ask them to go get one of the needle users in the waiting room and have them do the sticking. My hand was swollen to a degree for a year after that. I should have sued them. I will die in the street before I ever go to The Med again. Never purchase insurance that would even allow you to use The Med.

I have four or five small ones just chillin. Stockpile your meds and go to the ER at the very first twinge.

They have happened to nearly every member of my maternal side, almost none of my paternal side. I think they are hereditary, mostly. One doc did say I might have "different shaped" kidneys that encouraged their formation, but I was never tested.

I think they have gotten off the idea that phosphorous in Cokes causes them, and docs don't seem to care which kind you have anymore. I do try to avoid calcium supplements.

I drink way too much Coke, but mine have happened so randomly, it's hard to relate it. Hospitals do notice an uptick in them when the summer hits and everyone gets more dehydrated. I have had two episodes in one year, and then none for six years. Had them in June and January. I just PRAY I never get one when I am in the real boonies. Nothing in a bottle can touch the pain when it really hits; you need an iv drip at a hospital, something like heroin. 03-lmfao

You and I could write a book. I think my problem came from drinking to much Coke too. I'm addicted to it, and I try to limit myself to one can a day. I realize I will have another, its just a matter of time.

Hi! My name is 21-17, and I am addicted to Coke, with a capital C.

Yes, I have been drinking them too much since I was about 12, about 48 years now. They were always around the kitchen when I was a child. Come to think of it, all my kidney stone relatives drank Coke, too, so maybe there is a connection. My grandmother used to start the day with one.
I'm trying to limit myself to one a day now because of all the sugar, esp. since my brother is diabetic. But even with the gazillion Cokes I have drunk in my lifetime, I do not take even one medicine regularly. I'm probably healthier than most my age. But yes, I do anticipate more kidney stone attacks.

The second one, the one that was there but doing no damage, hit early this week. I awoke Monday morning around 2 AM and knew exactly what was going on. The pain, and the drugs, caused me to miss too much work so I went yesterday and had it removed around 7 AM. I now have a stint, which is super uncomfortable, until Monday. Good news is that the stone's are all gone now. He saw no new ones formed so I'm back at square 1. Got to stay hydrated and hope this never happens again.

RE: Joined a club last night that I am sure many of you are members
Well, Camaro, that is really....funny, but I would never say funny in regard to a kidney stone. Because....in the words of the Hangover, "It's happened again."

Two weeks ago, I woke up, felt a twinge of pain in my side. Ten minutes later, it was full-tilt, hardcore, go-to-the-ER-now pain. I quicky realized I couldn't wait for anyone to come and take me, so I called an ambulance. I had trouble even putting on my clothes because I was frozen in pain. Met the paramedics on the curb and said, "Kidney stone. Let's go."

I can now check "ambulance ride" off my bucket list. Bumpiest ride I have ever had. Who knew ambulances were bumpy? Glad I didn't have a bullet stuck next to my brain. I felt every pothole right in my kidney.

Well, you know the drill. Blood pressure of 190. They stuck me in a room and abandoned me. I had to hobble to the door and yell at a nurse in the hall that I was having trouble breathing in order to get some pain meds. For the first time ever, it took TWO shots of whatever to even touch the pain. One CAT scan and three hours later, the doc pronounced me fit to go home. He never saw one passing on the scan, but he did say I have 2 or 3 more in my kidney. Great.

My new doc has given me a referral back to my kidney doc and suggested I lay off the Coke because they have so much...get this...salt in them. Maybe they will decide to lithotrip them out. I will say this was the absolute worst kidney stone pain I have ever felt. Out of a 10, it was a 15.

Not to get personal, but when you say they "removed" yours, was it a lithotripsy? How was that? My brother had that and was left with several smaller pieces and suffered even more with that. So sorry you had your ordeal. You can still be an honorary member of the club.

Well that story sucks! Sorry for that!

They didn't break mine up but went in and pulled it out. Whatever they gave me to put me under worked QUICK. They put a mask on and about 3 breaths in and I was gone. I work up who knows how long later and we went home probably 30 min later, they gave me the stone...it was pretty good size compared to my last one. So they didn't break it up but went in and pulled it out.

The worst is I did have a stent put in. It should come out Monday but I may do it earlier. Not painful, but super uncomfortable.
