MLB draft
A little surprising first overall pick - Mark Appel of Stanford goes to the Astros. Is he a Boros guy?

Yep. Slot value of $7.79 million as well.

SFA's Hunter Dozier went 8th overall, a bit of a surprise there. A local prep player from St. Pius (Stewart - A&M football signee) went #4 overall. The USD HR hitter went #2 overall and Gray of OU was the 3rd player picked.

Unfortunately for him, he doesn't have a ton of leverage due to the fact that he is a senior. Unless he is going to go the Independent League route.

Gotta figure 'Stros and Boros worked this out beforehand.

Probably interesting to watch if any other Boros players are picked a little higher than expected (which is a hard thing to ascertain at the lower rounds of the draft) by the Astros.

A TCU recruit from the Metroplex went #24 overall. The USF starter (Balog) who threw against Oregon went #70 overall.

Not many Texans picked thus far - must be a down year in our state.

Aaron Blair (RHP), Marshall JR was drafted to the Arizona Diamondbacks 36th overall.

Blair is highest MLB draft pick Marshall has had.

That's discouraging if that means the HS talent is weaker as well. Results on the field have suggested that the College ranks are weak in Texas.

Interesting that Houston seems to be going the exact opposite route of last year when they took someone #1 who agreed to come in under slot so the 'Stros could pay other players who dropped due to high bonus demands.

Luhnow and Boros have had a very good relationship in the past, so maybe they have a deal close to done. I loved the strategy last year, but I have enough confidence in Luhnow to accept that he knows what he's doing here.

Good for us, not for him. I spoke to AK's brother at the hotel; not surprisingly, they are not very pleased with either how late he was drafted or that he was taken by the Tigers (who are already loaded with arms and then used their top 5 picks on additional college arms for reinforcement).
