RE: 2014 Basketball Recruiting
Miami has the potential for another commit tomorrow morning, 6'8 Shawn O'Connell from Georgia has us in his top three along with Georgia Southern and Kennesaw State. Below are his comments following his visit in August, followed by a tweet today.

Quote:‘I loved it man! It’s an incredible campus, the college atmosphere, the student body, etc…And I love the coaching staff.’

OConnell came into the visit with some questions about similar players, committed or recruited. He says that the staff wanted to bring Harris and he in together to pair up on the front line. Also that Roderick Mills and OConnell were different positions.

Quote:@The_OC35
After a long recruiting process I'm ready to end it. Announcing my college decision tomorrow at 11am

RE: 2014 Basketball Recruiting
Toledo has their first verbal

Curley "Stuckey" Mosley out of Florida. Had about 15 mid major offers apparently including Ohio, Utah St, Creighton and a couple Ivyies. 6-3 combo guard who is a good athlete but has more of a clever soft touch style with a lot of in between game to complement a nice 3 point stroke.

Rockets looking to add a pg and a big to complete the class, but have had a couple pg targets commit elsewhere.

ESPN updated Buffalo commit Lamonte Bearden's scouting report and moved his grade up to an 80: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basket...te-bearden

He's now a 4 star recruit per ESPN, which named him the 27th best PG in the country, 27th best player in the region, and 4th best player in the state.

That's 4 stars from ESPN, 4 stars from Scout, and 3 stars from Rivals.

RE: 2014 Basketball Recruiting
Ball State just picked up its third commit in Indianapolis Tech 6'2 shooting guard Jeremie Tyler. He joins Tech teammate 6'7 power forward Rashaun Richardson and 6'6 Greensburg (IN) wing Sean Sellers as Cardinal commits for 2014. Tyler reportedly had 12 offers including Miami, Ohio U, and Western Michigan. Butler had expressed late interest as well.

I find it strange that Akron still doesn't have a 2014 recruit.

At least no confessed 2014 recruit. I was thinking some might come out from hiding when I saw Akron leading Bowling Green at the half, but then Bowling Green came back.

Why would a football score have anything to do with basketball recruiting?

It's not strange when you consider Akron only has 1 scholarship available in 2014. I believe Peyton Aldridge (Labrae) was the No. 1 player on their board and he committed to Davidson. That stung since Dambrot was on him longer than anybody, and Akron was his first offer. I also think Evan Bailey was the backup plan and he committed to Charleston right around the same time. So, it may not be until the spring and the staff re-evaluates before the Zips fill that spot. It wouldn't surprise me if that spot is filled with a JUCO guy, if it's somebody they think can play right away (will be tough, though, because even with the loss of Zeke, Abreu, Walsh and Gilliam, the team is still very young). I think Dambrot wants to have as many ships available as he can in 2015 and 2016. Northeast Ohio is absolutely loaded with talent both years. The 2015 class is as strong as I can remember in this area, and the 2016 class may be twice as strong as even the 15 group.

Anyway, remember Akron does have Joshua Williams locked up in 2015. That is going to be an absolute huge pick up a couple years from now. He was 3rd team D1 All-Ohio as a sophomore at Barberton, and now that he is at St. Vincent-St. Mary, the talent level he is going to go up against (even in practice) is going to help him be D1 ready right away.

No one's 'locked up' until they sign the LOI. Even then, lots of stuff can happen until they're registered for classes.

RE: 2014 Basketball Recruiting
Kent has been given a verbal commitment for 2014 from Raasean Davis, a 6'8" forward out of Georgia.

See http://scouthoops.scout.com/2/1336837.html

We also have a verbal for 2015 from Devon Andrews, a 6'4" point guard from Lorain OH

No doubt about that. Maybe "locked up" is too strong, but as for a 2015 kid committed to a Mid-Major, his commitment is about as strong as it can get. Dambrot has been on him since he was in 8th grade, I believe both his parents are UA alums and transferring to SVSM won't hurt the Zips' chances, since Dru Joyce and Dambrot are very close. Could he decommit, of course, but it is going to take the right situation at a high major for that to happen.

As for the commit of fellow 2015 PG Devon Andrews, very good get by Kent State. He's among the 20-plus kids (Williams being another) from the Greater Cleveland area between 2015-16 who are bonafide D1 players. The area is absolutely loaded in those two classes (with '16 being even stronger than '15). I expect all three of Akron, Kent and Cleveland State to bring in some very good talent in those classes. So far, so good for Akron and Kent.

BTW, I don't know what Kent State's scholarship situation is like, but as much as I like Andrews, I don't think he's even the best "big" PG in Lorain County. I love Isiah Walton's (Elyria) game. Walton is a '14 kid where Andrews is 15. But if you aren't aware, Isiah's dad, Harold, played at Kent State in the 90s. Walton signed with UC-Davis a couple of weeks ago. Chris Davis is an assistant at UC-Davis, and Davis and Harold Walton were teammates at Kent.

Did Kent recruit him?

I don't see that we ever recruited Isaiah Walton. From what I see from the recruiting sites, he looks like he knew he would go to UC Davis

As to "Kent State's scholarship situation", we must be maxed out - we have 16 on our roster, and only one of these are listed as 'walk on', so there's 2 others that must be paying their own way. We have 2 commitments for next year, and 3 graduating this year, but even then, we'd be 1 over. I have my guesses who aren't on scholarship, but don't know for sure.

RE: 2014 Basketball Recruiting
Alright, updated the list the best I could. I tried to check all the posts since my last update. Let me know if I missed anyone. I also added a couple guys for Ohio who have committed in the last month.

I have basically been going to rivals, scout and 247 for offers. If you have an article that shows more offers link that and I will add those. The kid Toledo got had an offer from Kansas State? That is great!

The MAC really seems to have stepped up recruiting this year. Multiple schools with high profile commits. 04-rock

I'm much more impressed with his offers from Columbia, Cornell and Rice!

Does anyone have any info for the teams I have nothing on? I believe Akron only has 1 scholarship available so it would not surprise me if they sit on that while they aim for some bigger names.
With 4 commits, Ohio has 1 spot to fill for 2014. I would imagine that is a PG. Anxiously awaiting signing day so we can get LOI's from the 4 verbals.

EMU just got a commitment from 6'8 F Jordan Nobles, from Canton Michigan. Doesn't have a Rivals page, but had offers from us and Detroit, according to one of our local recruiting guys (Steve Bell).

I'll try to link some info.

Edit: http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/jordan-nobles

Had offers from U of D and UMass-Lowell.
