Nats promote Rendon to AAA; playing some 2nd Base
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nati...e/?hpid=z8

Quote:The Nationals’ decision to play Rendon more often at second is particularly compelling because of the struggles of Nationals second baseman Danny Espinosa. As Espinosa has played with a tear in his left rotator cuff and a bone chip in his right wrist, he has hit .164/.195/.283 and has zero extra-base hits in his last 51 plate appearances. If the Nationals decide Espinosa will not be able to turn his season around, Rendon could become another option beside backup Steve Lombardozzi as an option to replace him.

Looks like Anthony is back with the big club this evening versus the Mets.

I looked tonight to see if he was in the lineup. Didn't see his name.

The move that makes sense is to keep Rendon at third and move Ryan Zimmerman to first. With his injury history, Rendon does not need to be turning double plays. Zimmerman still has great range and glove, but his arm is shot. He could be the second coming of Jeff Bagwell.

This was why the LaRoche signing was problematic. They wanted him until Rendon was ready, while he wanted three years that they were unwilling to give. It's still a bit of an issue. On his current contract, not sure how much trade value he has. LaRoche for a top fifteen second baseman, or relatively highly regarded prospect at the position, makes a lot of sense from Washington's point of view.

He's back with the Nats, apparently to play 2nd. Espinosa placed on the DL.

He's starting tonight at 2B and is batting 6th in the lineup. He's 0-2 with two flyouts as of this post.

He went 1-4, doubling to deep center in B8.

Ant got his average over .300 for a bit yesterday, after singling in his first AB.

He's hitting .350 since his call up.

Watched his game yesterday. He has a hit in each game since he was recently called up and was 9-20 after his single yesterday.
