So much respect- he'd like to send the MAC to the FCS.

RE: Nick Sabin giving back to UT
Yeah, I don't see where Saban really did anything other than basically give the kid a good reference. That's nice, but he would have done the same thing for any school he would have picked. Ely was the one who made the choice. Saban had what amounted to an interim job here for 1 year out of his career (I don't mean as an interim coach, just a filler job in his career) and I haven't read anything that would cause me to think UT is particularly dear to his heart.

Nick doesn't seem to acknowledge his days at UT very often.

I seem to recall when the UT Rockets MBB team was having a completely horrid season about 3 years ago and went down to play Alabama that Nick Saban took the time to give them a little pep talk......not that it did any good, but I thought at the time it was a nice gesture.

RE: Nick Sabin giving back to UT
I've always heard tidbits of him giving credit to UT for giving him his first head coaching job. Sounded like he liked it at UT, but he was plucked out of UT for a DC in the NFL. Hard to turn that opportunity and money down.
I don't understand all the criticism he has taken. This is a free country and you are allowed to go wherever you believe a better opportunity exists. If you question his loyalty - then how do you explain the loyalty the NFL and colleges have for coaches. The day they are hired they are on the road to being fired... Sometimes they make good decisions, sometimes not. It's all about taking an opportunity and seeing what you can do with it.

I have heard him reference his past coaching jobs including UT a few times.

I don't mean to be ungrateful, but I would rather he send us one of his offensive tackles or a linebacker. Not that we are in need, it's just that there's a bigger difference between aq and non-aq at those two positions, especially depth.

Wow, I think I vaguely remember that, too, now that you mention it. Good memory T-Town.
I don't think anyone is meaning to run Saban down here, only debating how much of an influence he had in Ely's decision to come here.
Now, I could imagine Pinkel having some strong, and hopefully positive, memories of UT because he was here for like 10 years out of his career.

Maybe this is just the beginning of the Alabama-to-Toledo tide!

I'd prefer to see the pipeline work the other way. Campbell steers guys who aren't going to get PT here to Alabama so they get a chance to play.

RE: Nick Sabin giving back to UT
this is really hilarious if saban starts sending his players to UT and or recruits then toledo moves up to the next level. and then saban hangs it up after a few more years. kinda like a last gift.

Or he returns to Toledo to finish out his coaching career. Nice bookends.
