Apparently it isn't done yet. The guy who told me apparently jumped the gun. Expected to happen within the next 24-48 hours or not at all.

RE: Stricklin to Georgia
Wow if this happens it was kept very quiet which is a rarity now a days. If he does go good for him hard to turn down a gig at the SEC and a team that has been to the CWS a few times the past few years. Only question I have is do we get a chance to promote from within or will he take the crew with him?

It's not done yet. I jumped the gun based on information I should have verified first.

I may be wrong, but I always got the feeling Birkbeck was content in his role, the opportunities to advance/promote were there but he was comfortable. Interesting to see who we'll hire.

Hate to lose Stricklin, but am happy for him. THE CWS was his ceiling at Kent, while he can go almost every year at Georgia.

Yep, the next hire is critical.

Congrats to Coach Stricklin. Not sure if Alex Marconi or Scott Daeley will be promoted from within, or if Birkbeck finally decides to become the head coach or if they go completely outside of KSU to replace Stricklin?

What about the return of Greg Beals?

RE: Stricklin to Georgia
You're more likely to see the return of Rembielak than Beals.

It's been proven by now that Beals is a good recruiter with an eye for talent but a consistently poor in-game manager.

RE: Stricklin to Georgia
I hope we don't see Rembielak back. From what I've gathered over the years, he had as many enemies, if not more, than he did friends while he was here - at least from a player/baseball alumni perspective.

I agree that Beals is unlikely. I guess it was just wishful thinking because those same players/alumni I've spoken with hold Beals in the same regard as they do Stricklin and it would be great to hire away an Ohio State coach who would be leaving for a more prestigious job at KSU.

I'd give Beals a shot. Skip Rem.

RE: Stricklin to Georgia
First of all, if I may - with all due respect - play AD; there is one guy for this job and it is Mike Birkbeck.

Now, does he want it? He didn't in 2004 but it is a much different job now and Mike is 10 years older. I would think the clock is ticking on his window of opportunity of being a DI head coach. If he doesn't want that, so be it. I think it's safe to say he will he either be our head coach or follow the other guys down south.

Now, if Birkbeck has no interest, you can look at the recently-fired Wichita State head coach Gene Stephenson, assistants Kevin McMullen and Karl Kuhn (Virginia), North Carolina’s Scott Forbes or Scott Jackson, Mississippi’s Cliff Godwin and Arkansas’ Todd Butler.

And for an added long shot, now that they have vastly underachieved for a few years, could it be time for Danny Hall's second tour of duty?

The only question will be whether Mike wants a HC job. So far, he's turned down us and Akron.

RE: Stricklin to Georgia
Birkbeck, Birkbeck, Birkbeck. If he doesnt want it we need to keep him on staff. Pitching wins and his reputation will keep that pipeline plentiful. Without him quite frankly i think we may be screwed.

Beals and Hall would never leave big $$$ programs for Kent, unless they were fired now. Hall's job did just get harder with Strick recruiting in his back yard.

Hall has just taken GT to the regionals for the fourth straight year. I don't think he's going anywhere.

We have the best DI program in Ohio. Stretch to get Beals, but possible.

RE: Stricklin to Georgia
Just want to remind everyone that last fall, we thought it would be unlikely to attract an alumni from a coordinator position in the SEC to be our football HC. Of course the fall out at Arkansas helped, but Haynes had other options.

RE: Stricklin to Georgia
Mike knows college baseball about as well as a human being can know it, certainly better than any AD and that is said with no disrespect to any AD. Mike is just that good. He should be source #1 on who we should get after we offer him the job and if he doesn't want it. We need to keep Mike. He IS KSU baseball.

Birkbeck named interim. Was he named interim previously?
