Thank you! I hope they keep underestimating ETSU's pitching staff. Awful hard for Vandy to win if they can't score against Doane.

I was excited to see the game til I heard they benched Doane. I understand he's not feeling well, but if he's pitching tomorrow that doesn't add up. It's waving the white flag to Vandy.

I think we are conceding this game, and trying to win game 2. Tough call, not sure I disagree with it though.

5-1 in the 7th. With the exception of 1 inning we haven't played that bad.

Regardless, you take away the five run first and it's a respectable game.

So, let me get this straight. For our biggest home game of the year (UT at ETSU) Skole doesn't start Doane. For our first game of the NCAA tourney on national television, Skole still doesn't start Doane.

I can see both sides of the argument, from Skole's side and mine, but I still favor mine.

This^ Skole wants to win one so he is saving Doane to pitch against a team he thinks we might have a chance against, even more so if that team threw their #1 today.

Georgia Tech did not start their ace tonight, so it will be both team's best pitcher tomorrow.

I completely agree with the decision not to start Doane against UT; this game was just a tough call. We would not have won this game with Doane, our bats just were not good enough against that pitcher.

Doane is still sick from what I hear. I'm sure there was some of that (knowing we wouldn't win) in it as well, but I think he needed some extra rest to be at his best.

If he was so sick, why was he in the dugout and not in bed resting? ETSU conceded the regional to try and win one game. Just as an outsider I was looking forward to the matchup, it's too bad it didn't happen. The bats may have reacted with the added energy of the ace on the hill.

I was looking forward to the matchup also, but have to disagree, do you want to face the nation's number 2 team with your 1st team all American pitcher at 80%, wasting him for an upcoming game where he might be 90-95%. I wouldn't. Doane is a very determined/focused individual, doubt anyone could have kept him from the ballpark.

If Doane isn't near 100% with stakes this high, then I have no problem with holding him back.

Just my opinion.

I completely agree that if he's not 100% you don't use him, since he's got pro talent. So by that logic I'd bench him the rest of the season.

If he wasn't a senior and today wasn't his last start probably, I imagine he might not play today

Doane is nearing 22 years old. Because of his age, probably a pro talent, but not a major league talent. Let his stock fall from a poor showing on national TV because he is sick, can't follow your logic.

That was my main point, if he wasn't 100% you don't risk a start at all. The fact that he's pitching against tech 18 hours later means it was strategy. Regardless, it's been poor showings for both of our teams.
