The media in the Tri-Cities don't compete. There isn't competition to be number 1. The market is settled. The most controversial event was the change in WCYB news directors. For years WCYB has been #1, WJHL number 2. Everybody makes their money...don't rock the boat. Competition isn't necessary. Adding staff, being aggressive....that's out of the question. Status quo is the way we go. Until ownership is convinced that there is a reward for working hard, competing, expanding...it will stay the same. It's the strangest market in this regard perhaps in the nation.

That's what I've been saying for 12 years, and really is a reason why I've been able to get hired to cover major league baseball for New York City but around here am considered to be too controversial.

You want to know why I always say I don't like it here; it's because the media around here would rather report that the fire marshall showed up at the Arby's Classic or put their arm around the high school coach they are interviewing after a game than really tell the news.
