Cerrone was a major league catcher for a number of years. He was always a first class guy. Good reputation.

Spears must have really overstepped his boundaries trying to make a name for himself after JC left !!

If anything, he tried to get the wheels in motion. I can't fault him for that. If the search committee is looking for a Compher clone, it will be another three years of the same ol' same ol'.

Rick Cerone from baseball is spelled with one "R".

Rumor is he's a consultant helping with marketing, ticket sales, etc. Actually, he was here briefly over a year ago, but the word was that Compher ignored almost all of his recommendations. I go to the Lincoln Inn restaurant and the owner said Rick got him the Huskie photos he has on the walls and did the same for some other places like Pizza Villa....the kind of personal outreach that can make businesses feel appreciated.

I don't know if he has any interest but I think it would be awesome if they hired Cerrone for AD. Has the credentials and is NIU alum.

Rick Cerrone bleeds cardinal red and black and has done quite a bit for NIU athletics. Rick has been an ambassador for NIU for years on the east coast. He has entertained many of our top donors at Yankee Stadium, as well as faculty and other alums. He's a member of the Northern Star HOF and there is a 3-page feature on Rick in Dan Verdun's new NIU Football book - see page 75. AD Compher was very supportive of Rick's ideas and suggestions, including the 1963 National Championship flag, painting Huskie Stadium, securing the new video and ribbon boards, and other stadium improvements. I'm sure we will see many more improvements as Rick puts his experience as a nationally-recognized branding expert to use here at NIU.

What is his position? Glad to have him involved, hopes its in a more official position than in the past.

"1976" thanks for the Cerrone "bio". I read the 3 page story on him in Verdun's book this morning and encourage all those with the book to do the same.

This guy is awesome. Let him do as much as he wants!

I would agree, hire him as AD. He's worked for George Steinbrenner. After that everything else has to be a stroll in the park.
