RE: Mercer, ETSU, VMI to SoCon
The A-Sun could add my alma mater the University of Montevallo. Montevallo has wanted to go DI in the past, but at the time, no conference really seemed to be interested. Montevallo is in the greater B'ham, Ala. area, so teams could fly into B'ham Int'l airport, and make the short bus ride down to Montevallo (approx. 30 mi.) Sheesh, Montevallo itself could send a bus to the airport considering how short the trip would be (if finances would allow). Not much to do in Montevallo as it is a typical college town, but B'ham is nearby, so there is some entertainment. Montevallo's academics are on par with UNC-Pembroke (same system ECU is in), and really puts a lot into its men's & women's basketball, baseball, and men's & women's soccer. Those are Montevallo's big sports, IMO. I'll have to post some pictures of the arena when I can find some. The University of Montevallo prides itself on being Alabama's only public Liberal Arts college.

Thought Samford was an Alabama public Liberal Arts college?
Must not be liberal arts or something.

He should have known that considering the SoCon expanded with them. They either add private schools or public's without a pulse in football.

As everybody below you has stated, Samford is a private college, with a loose (if that) association with the Alabama section/convention/?? of the Southern Baptist Association.
The University of Montevallo, however, is a public university in the state of Alabama that is the state's only public liberal arts college, or so it claims itself to be.

Didn't realize Samford was a private college. Wasn't on my need to know information, I guess.
