Wind blowing in ... 83 degrees .. hot and humid.

Rice lost the coin toss, so we're the visiting team.

Stringer bloops a one-out single to center.
On his 7th pitch, Ratterree's out on check-swing strike.
Aquino slaps his first pitch to left field for a single. Runners at 1st & 2nd.
Batting .400 with runners in scoring position, Hoelscher rips a 3-2 pitch down the left-field line for a 2RBI double!!

2-0 Rice. Runner at 2nd, 2 outs.

Cook walks on 3-1 pitch. Memphis pitching coach visiting the mound.
Perrott hits his first pitch to shortstop, ending the inning.

2-0, Rice ... heading to B1. 33 pitches for Schoenrock. Rice batters fouled off 8 pitches in this inning!

Cook fouls off two 3-2 pitches. JP: "Now, 3-2 count it remains."
Cook walks ... Schoenrock is being pulled.

Way to work the count, Owls!! Fouling off lots of pitches and not getting suckered on balls.

Craig Caufield in to pitch.

So what's with the ConferenceUSA1 logo on the field? Did CUSA change its name to reflect all the changes? CUSA Rev. 1?

Great, smart, patient two out hitting. Looks like we're using some of the clutch hitting we saved up during the regular season.

B2:

Tubbs hits 3-2 count single just in front of a diving Byrd. JP said Byrd got a late start.
JP: "Another 6-4-3 ...Rack 'em up!" WooHoo!!
Ewing scoops a low throw to complete 5-3 inning-ending putout.

6-0, Rice after 2. Second straight 3-batter inning for Sims. 16 pitches in this frame; 28 in all.

Byrd smacks 0-1 pitch into center field.
Ewing: First-pitch sac bunt. JP: "Byrd matriculates up to 2nd base."
Stainback flies out to center (1-1 count).
Stringer hits an infield single up the middle ... and Byrd SCORES from 2nd! 7-0, Rice!! (Will love to hear more about this from in-person/video viewers.)

Stringer steals second.
Ratterree is the first Owl batter NOT to get first-pitch strike from Caulfield. He walks on 3-1 pitch.
After wiffing at two curve balls, Aquino fouls three balls off (and passes on a high pitch) before flying out to center. Aquino has swung at 9 of the 11 pitches he's seen so far. He's 2-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 2 LOB.

7-0, Owls ... heading to B3.

Boy, all of a sudden the Owls are looking like a very dangerous 2 seed. I know *I* wouldn't want them in my Regional.

Sure, and we also made the top pitcher in the conference throw 69 pitches in 1 and 2/3 innings. I think that sets up a lot of good outcomes.

And now some good hustle by Byrd for 7-0

And somehow we did it while swinging at a lot of first pitches.
