Didn't he pick UCF for a BCS bowl last year?

Well, if UCF had beaten Tulsa both times last year, a 11-2 UCF team with narrow losses at undefeated Ohio State and Missouri might have gotten the nod over a one loss NIU program. Not so far fetched.

I've bought his mag every year since 2001 I think. I don't disagree he's the best out there, probabably in any sport, but he's not always correct. He just spends an enormus amount of pages in his mag spinning and telling you how correct he was. Plenty of things he's looked stupid as hell on but he doesn't highlight that, or if he does has a handful of injuries or excuses to back why.

That's how every sportswriter works. They'll throw out 50 predictions and they love to let you know how right they were for 5 out of the 50.

La Tech set the Top 25 standard last Fall and the rest of us need to set that as all our goals and to recruit toward such.

I hope Marshall gets in and stays in the Top 25 this Fall....it would be good for Conference-USA. We don't need to have our best teams #50 and up.

MSU opens with Oklahoma State in Houston. Most MSU people I know are not happy...they are already counting Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, and South Carolina as losses, which means they are looking at five losses with the need to beat three out of Auburn, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Ole Miss just to go bowling.

Most SEC fans are p.o'ed at Alabama's schedule again. The red elephants managed open dates before their two toughest road games (At Texas A&M and at LSU) and play Chattanooga before going on the road in the Iron Bowl. Their crossover games are Tennessee and Kentucky. LSU draws Florida and Georgia. MSU draws Kentucky and South Carolina. Ole Miss draws Missouri and Vanderbilt.

That game will be the first one after they finish their new stadium expansion, which will give them the largest stadium in Mississippi...by 757 seats over Vaught-Hemingway. I expect a hard sellout. I also expect a disappointed home crowd.

So yes... far fetched.

Our losses were:

31-16 @ Ohio State
21-16 vs Missouri
23-21 @ Tulsa
33-27 (OT) @ Tulsa in CUSA Championship

One more TD against Mizzou and another FG in each of the Tulsa games and a 12-1 UCF could have ended up ranked higher than NIU and gotten into the Orange Bowl. Most UCF fans thought we were over hyped last year too, but based on the actual results it wasn't that far fetched. Of course, UCF isn't the first team to fall a couple scores short of a really special season. Nobody cares how close to come if you can't finish.

Also, the score in the first Tulsa game is a little deceptive. Tulsa outplayed UCF for most of that game, we just got a couple lucky breaks. Tulsa was the better team in 2012, and I'm not sure if homefield advantage would have really made much of a difference.

if you want to play the "if only" game then if only Iowa hadn't scored with 2:!5 left in the 4th NIU wouldn't have lost by 1pt and they would have been 12-0, still ranked higher than 12-1 UCF.

Corky, about the only thing better Steele could have said is that we were going to win the national title, and that's not going to happen. This was a very nice breakdown and Steele was very complementary of Marshall.

Steele LOVES to point out everything he is correct on as thats how he sells himself, but he ignores the wrong stuff and there is plenty to see.

Even with the losses Tulsa has taken to the OL and Defense in general. Phil Steele still ranks Tulsa in the top 4 in CUSA rankings in 7 of the 9 categories and has a great shot at getting back to the CUSA Title game. I'll take that.
