OT: Oklahoma Tornados
Prayers for our friends in OK. Its a bad one folks. They think it was a mile wide F5. Moving toward Tulsa as we speak. Basement shelters.

This is the 2nd day of these types of tornados - although the F5 today is the worst we've seen in a long time.

They're now saying it was 2 1/4 miles wide at one point.

One of the destroyed elementary schools had 75 people in it at the time of the tornado.

The death toll for this one could be really high.

I'm watching some of the coverage. This is horrible. Sounds like they said 2 schools and the one is completely demolished.

God help those poor people...the videos make that city look worse than Hiroshima.

Last week we here in Weatherford (Texas) dodged a major bullet with a tornado that was headed our direction but changed at the last minute going west toward Granbury, but it was no where near the size of that "2 mile wide" twister in Moore, OK, this afternoon. I cannot even fathom in my mind a 2 mile wide tornado.

Some Good News! Just heard from a cable news network that all 75 kids in that one Moore elementary school have been accounted for!

What is it with Tornadoes the past couple of years?

It's like Hurricanes are sorta chilling out so now Tornadoes are asserting their dominance.

With that said, my thoguhts and prayers are with OK

Hurricanes are nothing compared to tornadoes as far as danger IMO. If you don't get out of the way of a hurricane that's kind of your own fault. You couldn't pay me to live in the midwest. I was in Joplin after that tornado and went down to that hospital area and saw the tornado path and destruction it carved out and there is no way I would live anywhere near a place that had that kind of tornado activity.

Truly sad, CNN reporting 51 dead so far, expected to rise, 7 of the confirmed dead are kids from the school.

I read all 7 of the kids died from drowning. Not sure how. I guess they got pinned down.

I've seen it as an EMT. Got a call about a guy lying next to the road. He had passed out, (drunk) and fell face first into a puddle. He drowned in 3 inches of water, it only takes two. Really sad.

Haven't heard of any Tulsa posters affected by the storms so far. I do have a nephew in OKC (Moore) that lives a few houses away from the path of destruction. He & his wife & 4 home-schooled kids rode it out in their tornado safe room. They had slight roof damage. I've personally witnessed a couple tornadoes, but never one like these monster tornadoes that have hit the OKC area in recent years. Very sad news, especially the school kids. I've been praying for the families of all those who have passed away.

Yep all of us.

Tulsa sits right dead in the middle of Tornado Alley. We have had Tornado's hit all around us and been truly lucky never to have had a one dead on. At least not one of those big suckers. Can only hope we never do! Because of Tornado Alley Oklahoma TV stations have some of the best weather forecasting equipment in North America! In Tulsa especially.

RE: OT: Oklahoma Tornados
Having only been 3 blocks away from the tornado that ripped through HBG a few mos. ago, I can only imagine the horrifying feeling for those that witnessed it. Hurricanes are soooooo different since you know they are coming days in advance. Having barely dodged an F3/F4, I can now attest to the horror of the surreal. Hurricanes are a walk in the park in relative terms.

The one thing I don't get is why all schools in that region do not have underground evacuation shelters. IMO, it should be mandatory such as it is when designing seismic equipment/buildings for CA. We don't know the exact date, but we know they are coming.
