RE: 2013 MAC Baseball Tournament
It's a double bracket tourney, too. 1, 4, 5, and 8 play down to one team, and 2, 3, 6, and 7 do also, then the two survivors play a one game championship regardless if one team ends with one loss.

Would love to see Kent and Buffalo in the finals. They have been by far the two bet teams all year.

That would be a great series.

I think *if* we get through to Kent our depth will be an issue.... Unless Hartz maybe gets his first start of the year somewhere...

Depth in pitching, or depth in the lineup?

I can see that setting up the rotation for a double elimination tournament can be tricky if you are worried about the depth of your starting pitching.

Pitching. We have three guys that have started 42 of our 54 games (14 each for a total rec of 19-9). The next two guys have 7 (Folk) and 4 (Stephens). Between the two of them the record is 3-5.

Hartz has no starts but has appeared in 16 games averaging only 2.3 innings. But he does have some longer stints mixed in there and a 6-1 record.

I was wondering whether you save your #2 guy for game three, since if you win the first two and lose the third, you are going home, but if you win the first and third and lose the second, you are still playing.

But I guess you use your top two guys out of the gate to avoid the two Friday games if possible, and hope your reliever / middle reliever Hartz is still fresh by Friday.

Yea I almost say you pitch your #4 guy on day 1 if you are a squad like Buffalo maybe combine Folk and Hartz. for a full game, hate to chance a first round loss but the upside of winning is that if you can win the next three games you are MAC Champs...

RE: 2013 MAC Baseball Tournament
Too bad the site was down yesterday afternoon so we couldn't post updates.

Yesterday's results:
Ball St. beat Miami 13-7 in the first game.

BG beat NIU 6-4 in 11 innings.

Then Toledo won in a thriller over Buffalo as T4C8 noted.

And KSU blasted CMU 15-8 in the final game.

Today:
First, two elimination games:
Buffalo vs. Northern Illinois 9:00 AM
Central Michigan vs. Miami (Ohio) 12:30 PM

Then the four winners square off:

Kent State vs. Ball State 4:00 PM
Toledo vs. Bowling Green 7:30 PM

05-mafia

Buffalo taking it to NIU, leading 8-0 and still batting in the 7th. NIU with only 3 hits so far.

NIU two and out.

UB wins 13-0 on a 4-hit complete game shutout. The Bulls now get the loser of the 7:30 UT-BG game. They will play at 12:30 Friday.

CMU and Miami up next at 12:30.
