Baseball Countdown?
Dukes needed a combo of two wins by us and/or losses by Towson over today through Sat to make the tourny.
Lost another game today , 8-7 to Delaware.
10, 9, 8, ...

RE: Baseball Countdown?
Meant to say losses by Hofstra, not Towson. They open their final 3 games tomorrow in a DH. Waiting...

RE: Baseball Countdown?
Here is how it plays out for JMU as these three teams fight for the last 2 spots..... Hofstra took the first game from UNCW. All three of these teams have two games left. I believe the seeding goes by CAA win %.
HOFSTRA JMU NE
.428 WIN 2 .462 WIN 2 .481
.407 SPLIT .423 SPLIT .444
.370 LOOSE 2 .385 LOOSE 2 .407

Yeah, it's time for new baseball leadership. This is about as bad as I've seen the Dukes... and I played under Kevin 'It's kinda an ethics gray area' Anderson!

7-4 UD after 6. UD with a 2 run HR in 1st. Another 3 run HR in 6th. Just brutal pitching. Cannot believe we are begging for a 6th place finish just to make the toonament and also cannot believe they may very well gag a 1 1/2 game lead on Hofstra. I'd probably root for UD if I thought it would make a difference in who's coaching next year. Alas, I don't think it's gonna matter at all.

RE: Baseball Countdown?
ugh, can't take it anymore....UD up 10 to 4 in the 7th. Still going...
UNCW laid down....errr, Hofstra beat UNCW in game 2 5-1. Swept doubleheader from regular season and NCAA regional bound UNCW. Kudos to Hofstra. They stepped up, Dukes did not. Hofstra officially in 6th place (assuming JMU doesn't rally).
Last game 3 tomorrow. JMU must win. Hofstra must lose.
Guess I won't be at toonament next weekend after all.

RE: Baseball Countdown?
Need a win tomorrow and a Hofstra loss to sneak into the CAA tourney.
I sincerely hope the guys get lucky an make it...but it would be pure luck if it happens.
And then JB needs to pull the plug on Spanky.

Can't Babcock come out of retirement. So what if he was a difficult guy; we were top level in the state. Lots of old managers out there.

There are many talented coaches out there who would jump at the chance to lead our program. It would be the easiest hire JB ever made.

RE: Baseball Countdown?
My real gripe is our relative position w/in the state . Not a whole lot we can do compared to the southern powers. But when our standing in our own state has dropped noticeably, then I begin to become concerned. If we win the CAA but lose to UVA, ODU, VT, Richmond ( and lately Radford, VMI, Longwood and W&M ), I don't see that as our program improving.

RE: Baseball Countdown?
Hofstra finally loses a crazy game. UNCW was up 9-4 but Hofstra came back to force a 10th inning. UNCW 2-run HR in the 10th and Hofstra couldn't score.
UNCW 12 R, 15 H, 2 E; Hofstra 10 R, 12 H, 1 E
Dukes up on Delaware 11-2 in the 8th. Northeastern beat Towson 6-3.

If JMU wins, are they in the BB CAAT?

Good for them, I know they can't be exactly amped about squeaking in on the last weekend, but at least they are playing.
I'm not expecting a whole lot though.

RE: Baseball Countdown?
If JMU get a similar pitching outing from their starter like they got on Sat from Bladel I really like their chances of advancing. I am sure it is nice for them to be playing at their home field. Should be a great game on Wend.

Way to go DUKES!!!! Now let's try to get some quality starting pitching and see where we come out.
It is amazing what good leadership can do for a program. I think the turn-around in JMU softball under Mickey Dean really highlights that. Hey Spanky is an OK guy but it is just time for a change on the diamond.
Look for that change mid/late summer is my guess.

RE: Baseball Countdown?
tidbits that you may not be aware of...
the Dukes are 10th in the nation in hitting. Pretty darn impressive.
However, that is offset by their 277th ranked atrocious pitching.
Typically tournament baseball is won by good pitching teams as managers won't be afraid to use every arm in their pen to get outs one at a time.
My biggest disappointment with the team this year was Matt Tenaglia. He fell off the face of the earth after missing last year with an injury. 2011 - 9 HR's with the trampoline bats, 2013 - 0 HR with regular bats. He truly has WTP now.
The homefield can't hurt. JMU is 18-10 at home, albeit against less than stellar competition.
