University Golf Courses?
Currently, Georgia Southern is building an 18 golf championship golf course that should open in October 2013. While it is part of the growing campus recreation program, there is a chance our athletics program will also use it. Currently, the golf team plays at a private country club in Statesboro.

I'm wondering if any other Sun Belt institutions have golf courses? Are they athletics, auxiliary or within student affairs like Georgia Southern?

Here are a few of the photos, you can follow along with construction at http://twitter.com/GSGolfCourse

We have a put-put course near the ASU Campus. I made a hole-in-one on 4 separate holes the last time I Played it. Eat your heart out Kim Jong II

TXST has a 9 hole course across the street from the football stadium. I believe it is mainly recreational but the teams may practice there (someone who knows more please add if you know). A river runs through it.

Pretty sure they hold any "matches" at Quail Creek Golf Club, which is 3.1 miles from the stadium, other side of the interstate.

That is definitely not beautiful Eagle Creek.

But it would make for a good name for the golf course.

Right now it is Southern Links. Not sure if they plan to change the name

Any schools have a disc golf course on campus?

I know some universities do, although I've only played at one (at La Tech).

I'm pretty sure the Georgia Southern golf course is going to have a disc golf course as well.

RE: University Golf Courses?
Actually Atlanta Trojan, Troy has remnants left of a golf course left. I don't believe it's a true golf course anymore. Troy's campus is pretty land locked for growth and development but they had a ton of space on the golf course. So campus has slowly been overtaking the golf course over the years. Our current track and field facility and new basketball arena sit on what was once the golf course as you said. The university has been saying for years they are going to bring the golf course back, but I haven't really seen any real progress on that. I think it's just empty words to appease people who aren't happy with the golf course fading away.

That's cool...and it has 21 holes! I wish MT had one but I just don't see a spot where it could be.

There are three Golf Courses within three miles of South Alabama. One is a RTJ course.

Country Club of Mobile
Magnolia Grove

It was a pretty tough course... the kind that would make you "lose grip one your clubs." I enjoyed playing on it and was sad to see the 1st and 9th holes get taken out for the arena, but sometimes tough choices have to be made for things like that. I did hear that when the course was originally built using state funds that a clause was included that if it was ever demolished then the school would be required to set aside an equal amount of natural acreage for public use. What I heard was when they did away with the first 9 that is when the arboretum was set aside and now they are working on a nature trail going from Hawkins park around to the lagoon. I could be wrong but that's what I've heard
