El Paso Patriots moving back to the SAC
El Paso Patriots Moving to SAC
2013 Home Games to Be Played at the Socorro Independent School District Student Activities Complex
El Paso, TX, May 1, 2013: The El Paso Patriots soccer team of the Premier Development League (PDL) of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) will play its 2013 home games at the Student Activities Complex (SAC) of the Socorro Independent School District, 1300 Joe Battle Blvd., El Paso, Texas, 79936.

The Patriots, representing the highest level of soccer played in El Paso, will open their 2013 home schedule at the SAC against the Oklahoma City FC at 7:30 pm on Thursday, May 23, 2013. That game will be followed up two days later with the Patriot’s second home game at 7:30 pm on Saturday, May 26, 2013 at the SAC, against the Texas Dutch Lions. Both Patriot opponents are fellow members of the Mid South Division of the Southern Conference of the Premier Development League in which the El Paso Patriots finished 2012 in 3rd place with a 7-2-7 record.

In recognition of the move to the SAC, all SISD students and staff will be admitted free to the games on May 23rd and 25th with their student or employee ID card or school logo shirt.

RE: El Paso Patriots moving back to the SAC
Could Cervantes be giving a go for his son's last hoorah in soccer? They needed to move from patriot stadium, that place had no parking whatsoever and that coupled with a few other reasons lead to their low numbers in attendance. I hope the SAC has removed their larger than normal crown in the middle of the field, it made the game unplayable on the sides of the field.

The first game the patriots ever played at the SAC was standing room only, hopefully they can get back to those numbers again.

Why not tear down the county courthouse and build a soccer stadium there? 03-drunk

And this time, we can bring more animals, more plants, more trees, and plastic structures.

I say we build everything out of re-bar and just weld everything together. We can wait till the next city hall to build a plastic structure

It doesn't seem that the city is interested in professional soccer. However, if we somehow could find a way to build a stadium, somewhere on the loop would be the best place.

I- 10 and Loop 375 would be a great location. Easily accessable from anywhere in the city and only a few miles from the Zaragoza bridge.

ummm..... The firs soccer team ever sponsored by Nike in the United States was the El Paso Patriots, and that was based solely on attendance

Legends of the game, USA vs Mexico had over 30k in attendance, and that was for an old farts game, who many players never once played for any of those national teams... That is more than most cities have in attendance for a real national game.

Exhibition game with the Indios drew over 24k at the sun bowl, which is above all regular season average attendance numbers in the MLS except for seattle.

You are absolutely correct. When I said that the city doesn't support soccer what I mean was our city government.

Which is to say I have no knowledge that they are looking to support professional soccer in El Paso.

I am hoping that the attendance is good enough for El Paso Patriots for them to move to the next division. The one right below MLS.

Moving to the next division would be a big step for the city..... Actually, another big step.

Maybe we can get them a plastic structure (stadium), with trees, animals, and plants.

Actually, the next step isn't that unlikely. The El Paso Patriots used to be in the top division before MLS. The requirement for that division was a 10k seat stadium. That is when they played in the SAC before.

They are not playing in that SAC again. Therefore, they have the seating capacity to rejoin that division. All we need is the attendance.

rumors are going around that Chivas USA may be looking to leave Los Angeles. Chivas Guadalajara is the parent club of both Chivas USA and the El Paso Patriots ( patriots re-branded the name last year and left off Chivas USA). Hopefully this is the start of something

I'm not a big soccer fan. But from a perception standpoint, that could make a big difference.

I did go to the game but the attendance was extremely poor. Less people than what they get at their regular stadium.

They would be lucky if they had 300 fans. Two things I see as the problem.

1. They have zero advertising.
2. They aren't selling alcohol.

They got a lot more than 300 per game. I agree that one of the problems was no advertising, but the main problem was moving down to PDL and maintaining the amateur status to bring in NCAA players. You could put an all-star El Paso area high school team together and they'd dominate UNM, but these players aren't dumb, they aren't going to play for a local team if they're not getting paid.

I agree

I'm not sure why they moved down to PDL. Based on what you said, it's likely that they couldn't afford to play the players.

I don't see them moving up however if they aren't getting more than 300 per game.
