Top Ten GOF Schools in Football
Over the last 10 to 20 years who would make your top ten list of G.O.F. schools in on the field performance?
1. Boise State
2. B.Y.U.
3. Cincinnati
4. Southern Miss
5. U.C.F.
6. Tulsa
7. East Carolina
8. Houston
9. Marshall
10.U.S.F.

10 years might be a lot different than 20.

UCONN should be ahead of some of the teams on this list.

Should BYU even count as Go5?

RE: Top Ten GOF Schools in Football
I'm just going to go with who was the best over the last 10 years percentage wise rather than anything subjective.

1. Boise State (.893)
2. Navy (.648)
3. Cincinnati (.642)
4. Tulsa (.641)
5. Northern Illinois (.635)
6. Nevada (.593)
7. Houston (.585)
8. Hawaii (.583)
9. Fresno State (.581)
10. Southern Miss (.565)

You guys are forgetting some of the Mountain West teams. Also ECU and UCF surprisingly have been sub .500 over the last decade.

Well it's not surprising in 03 and 04 ECU went 3-20 and UCF went winless in 2004.

And Marshall hasn't done anything over the last 10 years, but if you look at the 6 years before that too, then they look much better.

Marshall over the last 16 (.597)

Marshall over the last 10 (.446)-Ohio is .518 in the last 10.

Big drop off by the Herd.

Yes. No matter how you slice it, they are on the outside looking in.

Yes if you are being pragmatic ~ along with Army, though Army wouldn't be in the top ten.

Even if you are quibbling, it was in a Mid-Major conference for substantially more of the past ten to twenty years than its been out.

USF the last 16 years (entire existance) 108-69. .610 winning percentage all time. If going by the past 10 years it drops slightly to .545 (67-56). The only reason it's even this low is due to 2 bad years of Holtz, skewing the numbers.

Only 4 schools on that list can argue (with a straight face) they succeeded at the highest levels of college football:

BYU (national title, Heisman)
Houston (4 Cotton Bowls, 5 Top 10s, Heisman)
Boise St (multiple BCS bowls)
Cincy (multiple BCS bowls)

The rest are "never done it yets."

Well, NIU had one year they went 2-10 due to a zillion injuries. That skewed our numbers some. Most if not all schools had a bad year or 2 in there.

But how much of that is relevant to the question, which is the past 20 years? How many of those Cotton Bowls and Top 10's for Houston came 1993-2012? How many national championships and Heisman's have BYU had 1993-2012?

Without looking for the actual answers to your questions, I believe past success is relevant in that those schools have done something. Whether it was yesterday or 15 years ago, they have done it. Notre Dame, Nebraska, Alabama went through a down periods, but they have rebounded. The others that could be considered relevant have had success to varying degrees, based on the level of competition they had access to. While Boise is listed at the top of both lists, they really haven't been relevant long and played a lower level of competition than the Power 5. Put them in the PAC 12 and most years they would be middle of the pack, but to me that is not relevant to the question.

Why is a 20 years the cut off for relevance? It's arbitrary.

Why not compare since 2005? That's arbitrary too, but at least that's when the last round of realignment started.

Or 1965? Again arbitrary, but at least that's generally considered the start of the modern era in college football (i.e. integration).
