Russell Athletic Bowl to get ACC's top leftover
Per Brett McMurphy:

Quote:Brett McMurphy ‏@McMurphyESPN 9m
.@RussellAthBowl set to get ACC's top team after @CFBPlayoff & @OrangeBowl in ACC's new bowl lineup sources tell @ESPN

Now that the Peach is an Access Bowl, the ACC will now put their 2nd (or 3rd) best team in the Russell. Opponent still TBD, but I still think it's going to be the XII.

Considering they own the Cap One bowl too that would give them top non BCS pick from SEC, B1G, ACC and B12.

The Gator has more tradition but it probably comes down to Orlando being a better TV market, IMO.

ACC Bowl Games
1) Orange Bowl
2) Russell Bowl
3) Belk Bowl
4) Gator/Music City

I'm not sure if the ACC is still going to be involved with the Sun Bowl..

As a fan, I'd much rather spend a few days in Orlando than Jacksonville. That's a complete no-brainer, especially for those of us with young families that we would likely be bringing with us.

So does this also mean the #2 ACC team will play Dec 28th or around that each year? Orlando also hosts the Capital One bowl so they have to be far enough apart.

I don't mind Jacksonville because I still have plenty of shipmates that still live in the Mayport area. I also don't mind Orlando and Nashville. I'm happy w/ all of the sites so far.

I liked attending the Sun Bowl in 2010. The people in El Paso was great, the stadium is unique and its the only game on CBS.

The ACC needs to start a new bowl in Atlanta. At Bobby Dodd Stadium if necessary. It needs to play a bowl game in Atlanta every year.

Agreed. As long as the Sun is the ONLY bowl on CBS, the ACC needs to try to hold onto it.

Agreed. If the Peach Bowl folks can't make it work, use Bobby Dodd... but git 'er done!

Someone said you can't host another bowl at a playoff site. I'm not sure that is true though. The New Orleans bowl and whatever the Insight bowl is called now aren't going to be cancelled are they?

The ACC and SEC should create a bowl in Atlanta to replace the chick fil a even if it is a low level bowl.

Not in the same stadium and in the same week. If it's in the same city but a different stadium, or same stadium but a week earlier/later, that's ok.

Sounds like a good excuse for a AAC-ACC matchup.

What is the point of such a rule? It can't be logistical and exclusivity is meaningless without the requisite demand for the game. People want/love football in ATL and the city could pull off 3 games in one week if easily. Why adhere to this rule, to spread the wealth?

I think maybe this is to ensure the field turf will be in good condition...?
