Bleacher Report (yeah, I know) did an article listing the top 25 best rivalry games going back about 40 years or so. 1/3 of them involve ACC teams, and 1/5 of them are the same 2 teams (can you guess?)

1975 Brawl?...uh, ok. WVU wasn't even on Pitt's radar back then. You ask 100 Pitt fans and they'll all go, "huh"? I don't even know if it would make a top 10 list in the series, let alone come out ahead of multiple Penn State games. BR further proving how ridiculously clueless it is.

I was thinking the same thing, but I'm glad you confirmed it. If you're talking 1970's Pitt rivalry games, you're talking Penn St. If it's WVU, it has to be 2000's...
Maybe we can come up with our own list of "Best Rivalry Games" of, say, the past 30 years or so?

Back in the 70s both PSU and Notre Dame meant more to Pitt than WVU.
Here's a list that has it number 5 in the Backyard Brawl series so that is somewhat neutral. I've googled around and found lists where it didn't make the top 10 of the Brawl series.
2007 is probably a universal #1: it was ESPN's college football game of the year, completely changed the national championship picture, and was the biggest upset in the history of the series and one of the biggest ever in college football.
1997 3OT Pitt win would be up there too, as would be the 1989 tie, and for WVU their 1983 win.

Good stuff! So, how do you rank the Pitt/PSU games? and what about the Pitt/ND games?
