I'm heading to the 1st exit across the Georgia state line because that is where the winner comes from every time isn't it?

I live about fifteen minutes from the Ga line, I'll probably pick up a handful when I'm free next.

Sweet. I'm going to be in a wedding on the state line this weekend. I'll be sure to grab me some. I think I could retire on the winnings.

RE: The lottery
If I won a ton of money....I'd put about 25million off to the side for the sole purpose of a stadium for UAB.

But I wouldn't give the money until attendance averaged 35,000 a game in Legion Field.

As long as you guys are throwing money away, drive up to the Tennessee line and throw some money in our education fund.

Also...

They would need to hit that mark within 2 seasons, or the money goes to Southern Miss for basketball facilities.

RE: The lottery
None of my winnings would go directly to UAB. All of it would go directly to destroying Bama football, which would be more beneficial to UAB in the long run.

That's almost enough incentive to get me to throw away money on lottery tix.

RE: The lottery
I'm sure the people of the surrounding contiguous states appreciate the generosity of Alabama folks who help their kids get better schools. In 1997 when B'ham City had one computer per academic department in its high schools, the GA high school I went to work for had one new computer in each classroom, several in each teacher lounge and a dozen or so in the library, and they told me that Baldwin County (Milledgeville) had the most primitive (technologically speaking) set ups in the state.

I don't personally know all the other districts (GA has 159 county systems plus many city systems), but I did see that teachers left for other GA districts at a high rate (20+% per year) and often for better pay and working conditions.

RE: The lottery
Reminds me of one of my all time favorite sound bites. When speaking of a potential lottery, a preacher on TV said (paraphrased):
Gambling is a sin...Alabama doesn't need an education lottery no more than it needs an education whore house

I laughed
