Rice-Memphis Game 3

Some disappointing losses, but the great thing about baseball.. everything is wipe cleaned the next day. Let's get after it, Owls.

Simms gets in some trouble with 2 outs, 4-pitch walk and another error, but gets out somewhat fortunately with a lineout to left.

Owls get a leadoff single by Stainback, but can't advance him past first.

0-0 after 1.

Ugh...haven't we lived this story twice already this weekend? Only difference is Simms (and the defense) avoided the 6th inning meltdown.

That's been the story the past 3 seasons against left-handed pitching; any southpaw pitching save for guys who have ERAs over 6.00 and BAAs over .300.

Does Stringer's advance make Rat's fly out a sac fly?

GT is showing it as just a fly out.

Shane comes through with a 2 out single to score Stringer, but is thrown out at 2nd trying to advance.

Way top go Shane!

Apparently not per the gametracker box score.

I didn't hear the play, and I'm not sure JP's description would have been any more insightful than the gametracker graphic, but it looked like a sac fly on my screen!

Simms out after giving up an infield single with 2 outs in the 7th. Lemond in.

Nice job John! No runs, 5 hits (1 for a double) and 2 BBs in 6 and 2/3 innings.

I don't know the rules arcana, but it was essentially a sac fly. Should score that way, imo, like a bunt only thru the air, right?

+1. And Jordan came up big for us yesterday, as well. Those 2 runs in the 6th both should have been unearned. He would have been out of the inning had the tailor-made DP been turned.
