I don't see it as a way to pretend we're associated with those schools. I see it as a jab at the conference that has stolen half of it's membership from the predecessor to the AAC.

Of course, the official line is that it's just a coincidence that the names are so similar, and we want to be called The 'Murican to avoid any confusion.

I was poked fun at for pressing the issue of how confusing the ACC/AAC thing was going to be... but it's relevant since most of us seem to hate the alternative ("The American"). Even among us on this site, people routinely type ACC instead of AAC.

Too late now (and I'm really starting to like the 'American Athletic Conference'), but with a clean-sheet naming opportunity, it was inane to invite such confusion. We don't need to 'pretend' to be the ACC-lite. This is a damn fine conference.

Oh well. Lets win and win big.

PS: not excusing the publishers... that's an epic fail on their part.

I don't hate the alternative The American... just typing AAC is easier...

Which is what the media/fans will use...said this long ago...new conf name has to have a good/quick abbreviation.

Conference USA...was so screwed up from the beginning.

Some would list it Conf-USA...or C-USA...or say CUSA Conference, even though the C stood for Conf.

SEC, ACC and now AAC works great...quick...FANS can even cheer it if they face off against another Power 6 team, etc...or when they are clinching the conf title.

Glad the AAC didn't make the same mistakes as CUSA or Sunbelt.

From the cover page it appears they are pretending to be us. He he he. What a printing blunder. Couldn't happen to a nicer conference.

Piss poor choice of conference name IMO. This is a perfect example of it.

Disagree...I think the ACC was smart to not change their name when Pitt and Syracuse were added...as ACC has a much better ring than the Metro.

Same for the AAC...much better ring than the "cheap" Metro.
