(05-11-2013 09:39 AM)BearcatJerry Wrote:  A serious question here... What is the serious crush/obsession some UCF fans have with Rutgers?

Who the heck cares? Rutgers is here one more season and they certainly are not looking back. Heck, most of their fans don't care enough to even visit these boards any more. If this was a UCF matter (seems your head FB coach lied about having a degree once-upon-a-time too...) I really think the Rutgers fans wouldn't spend more than a second of thought about it.

What is the issue between UCF and Rutgers? Is it like the whole thing between "McDonalds" and "McDowells" in the movie "Coming to America"? "They've got the 'Golden Arches,' we've got the 'Golden Arcs.' They've got the 'Big Mac' and we've got the 'Big Mic'..." In the same way, Rutgers has the "Scarlet Knights" and you've got the "Golden Knights"???

Seriously, dude, get over it already.
At the end of the day, nobody but Rutgers and the coach made it an issue. They're in this league for one more year so it is relevant here.

Also, GOL did get a lot of crap for his resume issues. Why is it a shock to you people are calling out someone over the same thing? UCF people aren't nearly the only ones talking about this nor did they write any of the sports news stories. I don't get your point.

What are these mass amounts of stories posted by all of these UCF fans anyway? I'm really not seeing that. UCF is also not the "Golden Knights" by the way. Just Knights. That changed about 6-7 years ago.

I have zero issues with Rutgers. I wish they were staying in the AAC. Not sure why you think there is a Rutgers vs. UCF conversation. /shrug

I do see the irony here....a UCF fan running smack about a coach lying about his degree, considering their coach has been lying his whole career about just about everything.05-stirthepot

UCF never helped the coach perpetuate that lie. Rutgers has stated several times that Jordan earned his degree, which means that Rutgers has lied. There's your difference

Other ways how O'Leary's situation was different:

1) Jordan did not earn an undergraduate degree...something both he and Rutgers said he had.

2) O'Leary did graduate with an undergraduate BS degree...he lied back in 1980 about earning a MBA degree (he took graduate classes but didn't earn a MBA).

3) While O'Leary did not attend classes at Notre Dame...Jordan did attend Rutgers, who obviously just hired him...so it would have taken Rutgers own staff about 5 secs to double check his bio/transcripts at their very own school...but its obvious that the committee/president didn't even do that.

Who mentioned PSU here? Do you dispute that the poor decision making in hiring of basketball coaches is a decades long tradition at Rutgers?

Sounds like he was comparing it to psu iyam. And no I'm not denying rutgers has a bad track record when it comes to bball coaches the record speaks for itself but this story is making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Others in this thread did not display any stupidity...as you obviously didn't read the article or VIEW his transcript.

Jordan did not leave RU "early", he completed his Spring Semester 1977 session.

Then, (again, if you read the article), he came back in 1978, 1981 and 1985 to take more classes, again, trying to finish up his degree.

Suggestion, before calling claiming that others are stupid and/or declarying that he left early for the NBA, why not take 5 secs and view the article/transcripts...it will probably say you an embarrassing post next time around.

Bottom line is Jordan has some 100 credits without "graduating". Was it poor oversight by rutgers to claim that he graduated? Absolutely. But this was just a matter of rutgers being incompetent in being thorough rather than a "cover up". Jordan is going to be judged by his ability to recruit/coach and not because of this story.

Also I have no idea what people are talking about in terms of rutgers and Ucf. We played them in st Pete like 3 years ago and we play them again this year. Other than that I have no opinion of Ucf and their fans. Cincy usf and uconn I will miss playing but Ucf not to sound rude but I really couldn't care less about.

He has 103 credits. Not 200.

RE: Whoops! Rutgers New Head Coach doesn't have a RU Degree or any College Degree
Rutgers could so easily fix this by enrolling Mr. Jordan for the summer semester (I think I heard that he has 103 credits and a minimum for degree is110) and figuring out what he needs to complete.

This seems to be close to a situation at NC State where they hired a BB coach without a degree but allowed him to complete a degree from an extension program (ie. correspondence school). This doesn't even have to be that extensive. 7 credit hours...

Apparently he has more than enough credits to graduate but both sides never bothered to get the proper graduation paperwork together back in the 80s. Realistically this should be a non-story.

Believe thats the main point many in the local/nation media have focused on...especially after the Mike Rice debacle...and how it happened right in the same building as Rutgers then AD.

Poor oversight, incompetent, etc...that's something Rutgers Athletics could do without right now. (i.e. just bad timing)

Yeah...some AAC fans might have no clue that Rutgers and Louisville will be in the AAC for this upcoming season.

He's saying that Rutgers went from Mike Rice (abusive coach) to a new coach who lied on his resume. His words not mine. Personally I think the new guy deserves a chance, completed degree or not. /shrug
