Graduation Day in San Marcos
Roughly 4500 students are graduating from Texas State this weekend.
Graduation is held in the Strahan Coliseum (the basketball arena) next to the San Marcos River.

After the ceremony, students walk out of the building and jump in the river in their regalia.

Here are some shots from this year's class. Does your school have any graduation traditions?

At Troy, it's become a tradition in recent years that after graduation, you go get your picture taken in front of the giant Trojan statue in the middle of campus. This pic was taken from graduation today.

Awesome. Love that and wish UTA had something similar. Our previous tradition was to graduate on a stage, but then we had to go and get a real arena.

You have to admit, jumping into a crystal clear river is a lot cooler (no pun intended) than getting a picture taken in front of a statue.

It's not a tradition, it's a thing to do. I wish we had traditions like that.

I have several friends that attend Texas State and a couple of them graduated today. Saw one picture today of a mom refusing to stand close to her daughter because she was soaking wet LOL

You're right. I asked what traditions you have surrounding graduation. I appreciate you taking time to post it.

Follow up question --

Does your school have any traditions like
"If a virgin graduates from X .... then Y will happen"
or
"Tradition holds that All students have to do X,Y,Z before they graduate"

Instead of tossing your caps at wku, everyone jumps up and starts waving our red towels. Yeah we do it at everything, but it is OUR thing. RED TOWEL>RALLY TOWELS

The only place we have on campus that you could jump into is Cypress Lake our 3 acre swamp on campus. The only problem is it has gators lol.

You shouldn't have to worry, they don't let them get that big anymore. My first year in school '98 they had four that were 9' or bigger. They started breeding and then they removed them. Now they don't let them get over 6'.

Truthfully, I'm not sure. I've started seeing more of it in the last 5 years.

Just me talking, but I am still pretty wary of tangling with a 6' gator.

I jumped in the river when I graduated (better than 10 years ago), but I didn't know it was a tradition... I was just hammered.

Honestly, I thought that was our tradition: stumble across the "stage" and shake the president's hand while sauced.

Funny thing is it's not the gators I'm worried about it's sinking up to my neck in silty mud that would make me nervous
