we've also offered the #13 WR and the #17 OL in the country.

certainly seems like higher level guys that we are going after. don't know that that says much definitively, but sure seems like a sign.

true, but they don't graduate HS until 2014....likely redshirt in Year 1 at JMU anyway (2014 football season).

so you are a redshirt FR playing a transitional year in 2015, then have 3 years as a member of an FBS conference.

I would expect if we were moving up soon, the class of 2014 would be recruited for FBS.

We're not going to get this guy....sorry to be a naysayer. Good part, however, is that we are perhaps going to FBS in near term and this is indicative of that as per DD. Have we gone after these sorts of guys before? That would clinch that theory, if not.

of course we aren't going to get him. But I don't recall us ever even offering guys ranked this highly before.

Maybe a move to FBS is at least making us try more often. Can't hurt to ask. But asking as an FCS program is a waste of everyone's time.

Just for arguments sake, didn't Villanova do something similar during recruiting when there was talk about the Big East? Based on what they did, even if we are selling it that way, doesn't really indicate what's going to happen. I expect MM to take advantage of any recruiting edge he can find.

True, but his D-Hall privileges will start in 2014!

Part of the supposed reason that JMU wanted to wait another year to announce the move is to change the recruiting pipeline, right? This is the type of stuff we would expect to see.

Don't cost nothing to offer. And you never know. He won't even entertain the thought when sign up day comes along, but all these guys are one bad fit, one roster slot or one whatever from looking elsewhere after a season or two.

May as well show them some love and keep an eye on how things work out going forward.

Course when I scan that list of offers, I dunno, I know where I would want to go...

It was a valid point when mentioned regarding our willingness to move up immediately and I believe your thoughts on the matter are on the money. Still guardedly optimistic something's in the works.

Maybe this kid is a cousin of former JMU players Marvin, Ronnell, and Donnell Brown. It wouldn't surprise me as Oscar Smith High isn't that far from Hickory High.

id say the proof is on the boards - we have a lot of good threads lately relating to the eastern shore and undershirt requirements for men.

Guys like that wouldn't redshirt at a transitioning JMU. If not starting right away, they'd certainly be playing right away.

Great point....a big selling point for a number of years will be immediate PT.

If the football coaches are telling 17 yr olds that JMU is going 1A it would be impossible to keep it quiet. I hope this is the case but what would they say to a kid? "Don't tell any of your friends, sign with JMU and you will start for a 1A as a fresh...promise me."

Oh, I just meant that if we go FBS, we won't be able to redshirt many (if any) top-tier recruits IMO....part of our big selling point will be to play on their impatience and offer them a chance to start right out of HS.
