RE: Home Field Advantage Ranking
If we didn't have such a bad football team the past few years the Sun Bowl would have ranked higher.

I like of like these metrics. Mostly based on concrete numbers.

Meh... I'll take our .866 home winning percentage as the only stat relevant for the home field advantage at the Joan

A one year snapshot that doesn't consider strength of schedule but makes margin of victory one of the primary measures along with wins. Solid (not).

So, what is the status of the "Free UAB" movement? Will UAB be getting an on campus stadium any time in the near future? The review on this stadium was sad to say the least.

In my opinion, you've pointed out 1 of 2 real "misses" in this ranking.

1. Home field advantage can only be determined over years of history, not just one year. I don't know how you can truly measure anything except team performance in a single season.

2. True home field advantage is only demonstrated when the winning % at home is compared to the program's winning % on the road. The Herd's 86.6% wins at home is impressive. I don't know what the road win % is during those same years, but it's much lower than 86%, thus a home field advantage for Marshall.

IMHO, the formula that they used is pretty good, they missed a couple of pretty important data points.

Marshall's current stadium in 1991, and only played in I-AA through 1996. 6 seasons I-AA, 8 seasons MAC, 8 seasons C-USA.

RE: Home Field Advantage Ranking
And .667 against ECU in our last three (.750 in the last 4 after this year). So what's your point? If anything you are proof of our homefield advantage, we can't beat you at home, but play you significantly better in Huntington.

When we moved to CUSA we significantly increased the difficulty of our home OOC schedule because those teams would now play us at home. We also hit probation concurrent with the move. We're 9-3 in conference under Holliday at home in conference games and 21-11 at home overall in CUSA games (.656). We'll go 6-0 at home this year.

I'll be making my first ever trip to Huntington this year for the ECU/Marshall game. Looking forward to the famed Marshall hospitality towards visitors.

You will be welcomed with open arms. Stop by any tailgate and share a brew and some grub. Glad you are coming up.

RE: Home Field Advantage Ranking
I found a site that has all-time winning percentages at home (as FBS members, I suppose):

USM: .731 (167-61-1)
Tulsa: .679 (300-138-14)
UTSA: .667 (4-2)
La Tech: .666 (104-52-1)
ECU: .647 (156-85-1)
MTSU: .595 (44-30)
UAB: .565 (52-40)
North Texas: .563 (126-97-6)
Marshall: .555 (111-89-1)
Tulane: .550 (335-271-31)
Rice: .533 (301-263-20)
UTEP: .495 (207-211-9)
FAU: .463 (19-22)
FIU: .413 (19-27)
WKU: .333 (11-22)
