ECU has blanked USM for the five straight innings, but the Eagles got 4 unearned runs in T1 (two singles, a walk, first on a third-strike wold pitch and two errors). USM leads the Pirates, 4-0, heading to B6.

ECU leading 8-5, T 9, but USM has bases loaded with one out.

Now 8-8, going to T10. Game up for grabs.

Oh man, 8-5 ECU over USM going to the last inning. USM loads the bases with no outs, then flies to center for the first out, now a single plates one. Bases still loaded, 8-6 ECU, 1 down.

EDIT: And another single ties the game. 2 runs score. 8-8. Still just one out with Eagles at 2nd and 3rd. C'mon, ECU!!

Wow! And a crazy double-play gets ECU out of T9 without any more damage. 8-all going B9. C'mon, Pirates!! Plunder an upset!

NOTE: I'm not sure what happened cuz I'm just watching the pixels run around on Gametracker, but it appears that the pinch hitter for USM launched one to deep CF, it was caught for the 2nd out, then the runner at 3B was tagged out at home trying to tag up and score the leading (winning) run. Wow. Wish we could see that highlight. Would be huge for us (and UCF) if ECU can pull this one out here. This would clinch the series, FWIW.

Pinch-hitter hits 3-2 fly ball to center field ... and they nail the go-ahead runner at the plate!

Tie game, heading to B9. Go Pirates!!

Arrrrrrrrrrrgh! Pirates get their leadoff batter on B9 with a walk, then hit into a double-play. 2 down, no Plunderers on. Looking like extra innings.

WAIT! The Buccaneers have a pulse! 2-out, 2-strike single! C'mon!!

Oof, then a caught stealing ends the threat. On to the 10th. LET'S GO, SAILORS OF ILL-REPUTE!!

10-pitch, 3-up/3-down in T9.

Pirates' 9th hitter, then top of the order coming to bat.

#9 hitter for ECU gets hit by a pitch (or as they say, "walks the plunk off"). 03-wink Here we go, Pirates! Let's get a sail-off hit.

EDIT: Bah, failed sac bunt gets the leadoff runner. Then a fly-out makes out #2. Reynolds, the pitcher, up to bat with a Pirate on first and 2 down. And he grounds out. On to the 11th!

ECU gets two in scoring position with no outs -- a first-pitch single and 3-2-count double -- but only get one home (a sac fly on the 3rd 3-2 count of the inning) and lose 10-9.

6 BBs, 2 HBP and 4 HUGE ECU errors result in 7 unearned runs scored by USM. Talk about giving away a game.

West Virginia beat Oklahoma Sunday, 9-6, in Charleston to take the series, 2-1.

Vanderbilt's game at South Carolina was rained out, so the 'Dores win that series, 2-0.

Texas loses to K. State 9-3, keeping their pattern of going no better than 1-2 in conference series. They remain in serious danger of missing the Big 12 tournament.

Quick glance suggests they have to pick up 2 games on Texas Tech with each team just having one last conference series to play.

Odd out-of-conference weekend matchup for USM next weekend ... the Cougars of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

SIUE is the commuter school in the Illinois suburbs of St. Louis (about fifteen minutes from the house I grew up in) ... I went to high school and played HS basketball with their head coach.

Serious danger? I think they've clinched it (negatively) already...and no way they can possibly make the post-season. BTW, did you guys hear that Knoebel (their all-american closer) got suspended for a second time this season. Is three the charm, or will Augie continue to let him back on the team for fear of not winning another game?
