I keep hearing houston fans parading the fact that they should be in the Big 12, but, other than we bring in the houston market (evidence to the contrary,) I have yet to see a legit argument, so I was just wondering, all things considered, what makes houston better than smu or tulane?
Anyways, what happened to the reply function?
Honestly---what evidence to the contrary? In Houston, 70k could be at a Texans game, 33K could be at a Houston game, 20k could be at Rice game, 20k could be at a Dynamo game, and another 15k could be at a Rockets game all in the same October weekend. That doesn't include the 80k that might be 75 miles north in College Station or the crowds at TSU, Sam Houston (60 miles north) or the Lamar game (about an hour east). By the way, that means 53k people are attending CUSA games on a Saturday in Houston playing teams that dont travel, have no big time name recogntion, and have no fans in the area. Thats 53k showing up while those schools compete with the NFL, NBA, MLB, and MLS for the sports ticket buying dollar.
The reality is that no single school "owns" a large city of 5 million plus. This is your typical sunbelt city. Win and the stands are full. Put a crap product on the field and the stands will be empty (I'm looking right at Astros management). Houston had about 25-30 in the stands of an old dated stadium when we sucked this year. Not sure how many we can get with a good season in a new top of the line on-campus facility. I suspect 40-50k is our cap playing a non-AQ schedule. If we can do that consistently, maybe we can nab one of the last few seats on the AQ bus. If not, I'll continue to have fun on Saturdays in the future with 40-50k of my kind of people.
You forgot you could have 70,000 at the rice vs texas game in reliant, but I think that is just adding to my point.
I apologize in advance, you're a level headed Houston fan and I don't mean to pick on your team, but a few of your fans on this board (bbs) are a little irritating.
