After accepting the Sun Belt invite and announcing an FBS move, the Yosef Club raised over $600,000 in April. Very encouraging news.

I set up an annual donation to Georgia Southern after they made the Sun Belt announcement. I'll admit to being a bandwagon fan. Big boy football is just more fun and can do a lot for my alma mater.

Good and bad at the same time. Kind of disappointing when you think back to ODU saying they raised 3.5 million within two weeks of announcing they were going FBS last year. However, remember they thought about it for about a month. The 3.5 million may have been some donors or corporations saying make the FBS decision and we will do such and such.
Still good though.

Our Bobcat Club has seen a steady rise since FBS was annouced. May dip this year after, many donated or bought season tickets because of the Texas Tech game alone.

RE: App Booster Club Has Record Month After SBC Invite
Very excited about the move, happy to see it showing up where it counts the most.

Full article:
http://www.goasu.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB...=207531762

Exact number was $603,300 in April, well past the prior record of $434,370 set last April. Also of note, the total fundraising has increased each of the past seven years, setting a new record each time. $2.7M was raised in 2012 and the Yosef Club is $200K ahead of where we were at this time last year. Positive sign.

Congratulations. Really. This is something that I am envious of. Your support is great. I just hope GSU can do the same. This year and more so next year will be huge indicators of the real interest for FBS at GSU.
Glad to hear you guys are seeing the bump, gives me hope for our funding.

A part of that also comes from having a LOT of really wealthy alumni. I wouldn't worry about it.

That is what it was for ODU. While they were weighing the decision, they had some of their big donors commit to donating the funds to make the move.

Does App have any big donors or do you guys mostly rely on a lot of donations from average people?

That's great for App. I'd almost wager just judging by my cursory knowledge of the programs that ODU wasn't getting nearly the support App State was prior to the announcement. Could be wrong on that, but I've known a few App State fans, and they are rabid in their support. I just figure that probably equates to donor support.

yes, as far as I could recollect, the 3M figure was raised by the odu administration going to high donors, but most of it came from corporate partners. they all gave that amount conditional on a commitment to the FBS level.
As far as I can tell, that's just App State fans donations, not corporations. Unfortunately for us rural schools, we don't have corporate offices around us really... so we don't get as much of a chance to connect with big businesses in our town.

Yeah the closest major corporate office other than Samaritan's Purse was Lowe's Home Centers, Inc in Wilkesboro, NC but has now moved mostly an hour and a half away to Mooresville, NC.

What do you think are the odds we could get some financial contributions from Samaritan's Purse??? Perhaps if we invited Liberty to the Sun Belt it would better our odds lol! We're mostly just normal middle class people donating out of our modest incomes but we love watching our App State football. I'm personally going to double my normal donation this year in support of the FBS move. Excuse me while I find my well used credit card...

Appalachian has corporate donations coming and yes we do have more than a couple of very wealthy alumni who have given significantly to the school, both on the academic and athletic side of the ledger. Some of you might know who of George Beasley. He is one of the major group broadcast station owners in the country. He was an education major many years ago and taught school after graduation before getting into the radio business in Goldsboro. The new Communications Department building on River Street is a reality because of George. He also played a big role in the money raised for the stadium expansion a few years ago. Corporate money historically takes longer to arrive due the rules and regulations which boards must follow before actually donating money. I know of corporations in both Charlotte and Greensboro who are looking at giving money to the school based upon the move to FBS.

Yeah if Liberty is invited Samaritan's Purse may contribute lol! I wish that Lowe's would contribute more with App though. I worked in the stores for 9 years with the first 3 years at the Boone store and then transferred to the West Jefferson store and Lowe's would occasionly give out a couple tickets to employees but nothing more. I know I have seen the Lowe's name next to the ribbon boards at the stadiums but was not sure if they were a main sponsor or not. It is nice though that we can start to get more contributions after making the FBS move, was afraid the anti-FBSers would cause the contributions to slow down.
