ND has done it twice (1996 and last year) and is planning to do it again.

It was a big success last year.

I am not sure PSU and UCF can duplicate it. Maybe so.

Great for UCF. If I was deciding between UCF and USF, knowing that I would be getting a free trip to Ireland doesn't hurt. That is how Bama survived those probation years awhile back ("road" games at Hawaii).

Jealous.

I'd be jealous if it were something other than a gimmick. And trust me, Maryland fans know all about gimmicks...

RE: Copycats!
It only makes sense for UCF if a promoter pays them big bucks to play in Ireland, because this would be surrendering UCF's home game in their home/home series with Penn State. UCF season-ticket holders aren't going to be happy about losing their home date with Penn State, so the athletic dept better be making truckloads of money to do this.

It is simply a way for Penn State to try to circumnavigate their bowl ban. They were considering a game at Hawaii as well but it didn't pan out.

They could label it the Pedo Bowl. Ireland ought to love hosting that.

It was going to be UCF's 7th home game anyway, and UCF already has BYU as a marquee OOC home game for 2014. Losing the home date, but having the national and international exposure of playing overseas is a fair trade-off IMHO.

I thought you had me on ignore?

ND plans to continue to play a game there once in a while in the future, despite some thinking it "lame".

Yes, they did. Almost all of that movie was filmed in Ireland with Irish extras. Only the opening scenes with William Wallace as a child were actually filmed in Scotland.

(I have been to Sterling Castle, the Wallace Monument and the sites of the battles of Sterling, Falkirk and Bannockburn in Scotland, very interesting places to visit).

The opening scene in Saving Private Ryan was filmed in Ireland. "Omaha Beach" was an Irish beach in County Wexford.

Many of the "American troops" at "Omaha Beach" were members of the RDF (Reserve Defense Forces), the Irish version of the National Guard.

It helped the authenticity of the scene to have trained Irish troops involved.

Yeah, but it's for a different reason. ND and Navy did it to expand their brand. PSU is doing it because nobody wants to be associate with them here so they have to hide on the other side of the pond.
