So he's playing this season and then sitting out next season as a transfer which makes this year truly wasted when he could've got in somewhere and sat that year out right away and then played four straight. Given those options it's looks like he just made his bed at Ashland for the next 4 years.

Gotten in WHERE this year? Either he didn't want to go to any place that wanted him OR no one wanted him. Your continued speculation that he "could have" gotten into a DI program this year is irrelevant.

Seems to me that he's in the only place that he can play this year, transfer and still have 2 eligible years. He's in the same situation as a kid that plays 2 JUCO years.

RE: Tra'Von Chapman
The more I think about it the more I think his decision made sense. Now he can go through the full recruitment process again, and have time to pick the best situation for him. Ideally a school that has an established Junior QB this year and no high profile QB recruits coming in. Yes he'll have to sit out next year but he was going to have to sit a year either way. Now he'll have a year of college experience under his belt before he sits and hopefully be in the right situation. Only have 3 years of D1 eligibility isn't that bad of a thing for a QB (Julian Edelman comes to mind). How many actually play for 4 years anyways?

One other important factor. I'm sure his dad having college coaching experience played a role in this. He understands how this process works.

Chapman is leaving Ashland to pursue Akron per the Record Courier. Here is the one line you get from the RC these days:

Ashland coach Lee Owens says former Kent Roosevelt QB placed unrealistic requests upon football program.

Maybe. Of course a year to sit out and work on his game with a coaching staff that includes his HS coach probably won't likely hurt him. Considering he'll be one of if not the highest profile HS QB on a MAC roster next year it's tough to just ignore this news...

There is a big difference between D1 football and success in the Portage Trail Conference. He is very talented but even in HS he made a lot of risky undisciplined passing decisions. The undisciplined piece seems to have carried over to his off the field stuff as well. 2 colleges in 2 years. Maybe the 3rd time is the charm but to think this kid is going to come in a tear up the MAC because his HS coach has a behind the scenes role isn't realistic!

Hmm, I don't believe I said he's going to "come in and tear up the MAC"...
What I said was it's tough to just ignore this and brush it off as "who cares?". Last year at this time he was getting ready for his TRUE freshman season at Pittsburgh while in a competition for the starting quarterback job. That was derailed by off the field issues, not on the field. If he was coming to Kent we'd all be very excited.

As far as him making "risky undisciplined passing decisions", he had 13 INTs in his 24 game HS career and 3 in 9 games at Ashland. Hell, Spencer Keith threw 22 INTs in his Sr. season in HS alone and he was labeled as a smart decision maker and game manager.

You left out that Keith's high school team never punted and passed all 4 downs. Yeah he had 22 picks but chucked it 626 times and threw 70 TDs which is unbelievable for a high school offense.

Makes his whole decision to hastily join Ashland's squad pretty dumb. Wasted a season of eligibility on a place he thought he was too good for anyway and now must sit a transfer year out. Should've gone the post-grad route and line up a better recruiting front.

And Chapman attempted 340 passes his Sr season. He threw a pick every 37.8 passes Keith threw one every 28.5.

I don't have much faith in "leaders" who make ME demands of what it will take to stay with a TEAM-no matter what level. Did he have these tendencies at the HS level? Maybe by joining Akron the NEW Assistant Coach will look after him again.
