Glass Bowl Atmosphere Improvements
Well it sure is the offseason. Just wanna spark some conversation. What kind of improvements could enhance the stadium experience here at the University of Toledo?

For me, a big thing would be to bring back the thunderstix. I remember back in the early 00s, they would hand out thunderstix to pretty much the entire student section. Boy those things were loud and it looked awesome seeing all of the students participate. Not sure why they don't bring those back, they definitely provided a home field advantage. Another thing I think Toledo needs to get on ASAP is to install an LED ribbon board all along the bottom of the double decker where all of those billboard advertisements currently are. Those are very outdated. It would make that side look 10 times better.

Amen---it wouldn't do much for the physical aspects of the Glass Bowl but it would do wonders for the atmosphere. Just as UT owned NIU for years, NIU has now owned UT for the past three years, costing UT a shot at the MACC game each time------time to stop the bleeding.

An LED ribbon board would definitely go a long way in sprucing up the bottom facing of the east deck... That, and finishing up painting the exposed steel beams underneath... If the university is not able to put major $$$ into the GB at this time, at least some aesthetic touches on the facility would be an upgrade... New restrooms at the southern end and enclosed concessions could come at a later time...

I agree, winning the MAC would go a long way towards the atmosphere. I remember being in the Glass Bowl vs. the team down south in jumpsuit orange, in the cold, after thanksgiving and cheering with a packed house for a shot at a championship. Winning cures all problems.

As long as those God awful thunder sticks stay in the student section, I'm all for them. I prefer to clap and yell.

Aside from winning, the thing(s) that need to be done should be...

-Adding ribbon boards on the east side stands where the current sponsorship signs are(like inductchuck said), and also adding some on the press box for the fans sitting on the east side to see. They can provide stats, scores, down & distance, sponsorships, 'Make Some Noise!' or TOL-EDO chants, etc.

-The sound system also needs to be upgraded, as we all have known for some time.

-I also wish we would get a larger video board that is all LCD (or whatever), that way they can put time, down & distance, score, etc. on the board, along with actual video (like the Mud Hens have with their video boards). I know the current video board isn't even old, but maybe move that to the south end, with a new, larger video board on the north end. It can be kinda hard to see stuff on the video board since it is not even that large.

Of course this all costs money. If I win the lottery, I'll help out with some of this 03-wink.

Atmosphere: I like thundersticks, gold outs, sell outs, BCS teams, and chants started per video board.
Stadium: I like cheaper food, no bed rock under the east stands, no fencing under east stands, and built in vendors on both sides.

Really see very little of that compared to say, ten years ago. Students really seem to be into the UT wear.

The best way to improve the atmoshpere is to have butts in the seats. And that is the answer to almost every suggestion on this post. I do not think there is any interest on the administations point of view to do any upgrades beyond maintenance until more people come to games.

Of course, one wat to improve that would be to schedule games on days that people can actually come....like SATURDAY
