Like A Good Neighbor....State Farm is There! (In Champaign!)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/bre...8551.story

Quote:Illinois athletic director Mike Thomas announced Monday that the dome in Champaign immediately will be called State Farm Center. The insurance company struck a $60 million 30-year deal for the naming rights.

Everybody's doing this...why can't we?

We just need an AD who is a salesmen.

GEICO Arena

Paint a huge green Gecko on the top for the air traffic heading to Chicago.

NIU, will not allow someone more than 5yrs to pay for things. It is the reason Resource Bank pulled their advertising. If, you want to give them 20 mill for stadium improvements or naming rights, you have 5yrs to pay the 20 mill. I have heard that is exactly what Resource Bank wanted to do.

Perhaps we could get Monsanto to sponsor DeKalb "Huskie Stadium" with their West Side improvements. Not sure of their presence in Dekalb anymore or if they just use the name. To me they would be a great partner.

Nestle would not be a bad idea either with the distribution center they have right off the highway.

3M has several Dekalb facilities I think. $ + free duct tape and sticky notes!

State Farm ticks me off. As a former employee, it bugged me that they sponsor all the schools south of I-80 in one way or another. They sponsor the day after T day game in NOLA, the Rail Classic and now this. Any SF adds we have are local. At least, as a retiree, I make them match my HASF donation, my Yordon Center donation and I'm looking at the Brick. Not a Good Neighbor to NIU.

The farm reference in the new name is not a bad one, I did sorta feel like I was entering a cattle auction when I entered assembly hall.

I don't know if they still do it, but when I was in school there they had an annual livestock auction on campus not far from Assembly Hall.

There are plenty of companies in northern Illinois that could buy naming rights if they wanted to. SF already had a pretty big presence on the U of I campus with their research center that has around 75 interns. I'm a project lead and our area utilizes the champaign facility. I spend one day a week over there.

How about Hy-vee getting the naming rights and then when people come to the Convo, they will be entering the Hyve. I guess a hive is not really Huskie-specific but it sounds scary!

Ooooh, The Huskie Hive. I like it.

I wouldn't mind calling it the Hyve rather than the Convo. Plus, NIU has to consider any and all revenue sources. Every single one.

A lot of ISU grads are pissed. Most of them hate the Illness as much as a number of us do. State Farm HQ is in Bloomington, so they are scratching their heads on this one.

ISU's business building was pretty much bought by SF. They can get over it.

I am pissed off myself...and I'm not an ISU grad. I think they need to spread that wealth among ALL of the Illinois public universities or NONE. In fact, I am pissed off enough that I am thinking of looking for different insurance for our home and cars.
