Lachlan Mclean on WHAS-AM is who you are thinking of cavman. However, I would say he is more of a chode than a "popular sports announcer".

Don't forget Terry Gates whom was also on that team as well as a team mate from Ballard High school in Louisville with Lamp & Raker. UL almost landed those players. A conflict with Denny Crum and Bobby Knight over recruiting Jeff Lamp had Him off to Virginia and a Final Four team.
Don't forget the classic matchup with Ralph Sampson and Charles Jones whom met a couple of times.
