FIU's Johnathan Cyprien picked 1st in 2nd round (#33 overall)
Congrats to our Johnathan Cyprien (Safety) on being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars tonight to open the 2nd day of the NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he missed the 1st round by just one pick. However, he becomes the Sun Belt highest drafted player since Troy's Demarcus Ware was drafted 11th overall in the 1st round in 2005.

Congrats Johnathan!

That's great news!!! That man is a beast. I really enjoyed watching him play these past 4 years. Good for him. Go FIU!!!

Kudos to the FIU faithful with the pick. Hope he does well (just not really good, as he's now in the division with MY Houston Texans).

Rumor has it that the Texans are targeting the Georgia Southern safety, but I think it was round 3 they were eyeballing.

In addition to Cyprien, FIU DE Tourek Williams was drafted in the 6th round by the Chargers. Also, OL Caylin Haptman signed a FA contract with the Cleveland Browns, while Jose Cheeseborough (CB) has signed a FA contract with the Baltimore Ravens.

TROY's Leodis McKelvin was also an 11th overall pick in 2008.

Congrats to Cyprin. That is a great accomplishment. I love seeing SBC guys going early in the draft. Hopefully he will be able to contribute immediately.

For FIU fans, where was Cyprien projected prior to the Senior Bowl? I know he really impressed many scouts and moved up on a lot of people's boards during Senior Bowl week.

Kudos to him. I was seriously hoping he would drop to 44 for the Panthers, but it was a long shot.
