Banowsky: ACC GoR "lessens the immediate need" for CUSA expansion
Per Jeremy Fowler (CBS Sports) twitter post:

https://twitter.com/JFowlerCBS

"C-USA commish Britton Banowsky said ACC's grant of rights lessens the immediate need for his league to expand to 16 teams."

Looks like CUSA will stick with 14 for now... Good news for Karl Benson.

"Lessens the immediate need" to expand CUSA to 16 teams? What planet is this guy living on?

CUSA has too many new additions, not too few.

What he means is that there aren't going to be any new rules for conferences to take advantage of having 16 members. The Majors are all stopping at 14 for now and wont be pushing for the new rules until they figure out their next moves.

C-USA needs the Big 12 to go to 12 - their "Pool A" payout from the playoff is fixed at $12 MM - to get down from 14 to 12. That would increase the remaining members' shares by $142,857.

Sounds like they were planning defensive expansion. Go to 16 to replace teams moving to AACK! who was losing teams moving to ACC who was losing teams moving to B1G.

They shouldn't have added North Texas or Florida Atlantic.

East
Charlotte
FIU
Marshall
Middle Tennessee
Old Dominion
Western Kentucky

West
Louisiana Tech
Rice
Southern Miss
UAB
UTEP
UTSA

Looks a lot better to me than adding in NT and FAU.

I think I'd go with neither F_U. Keep UAB in the East. Add UNT to the west.

RE: Banowsky: ACC GoR "lessens the immediate need" for CUSA expansion
I think folks forget that CUSA was in the middle of a TV contract it negotiated with 12 schools. It makes reasonable sense that in order to continue the contract and in order to overcome the losses, that CUSA had to go to 14 schools (more inventory and more market). We know TV contracts drive conference re-alignment and I think this is no different. CUSA likely had no choice but to go to 14 and its consulting with its TV partner the whole way with who they should add from their options.
