I'm a big fan of GS over GSU anyway. Georgia Southern has a nice ring to it. Not to mention our baseball hats are much sweeter than all of our other uniforms. I'd prefer using the "GS" on everything we do (not a big fan of our athletic logo).

I just wanted to interject that I am eagerly awaiting the first GSU/Southern game and actually want to attend if its in the cards. Should be quality entertainment.

First thing is to establish a marketing strategy for the conference. Including social media.

We had the WORST conference promo video/commercial. That needs to change. Someone needs to explain what HD is.

I suggest getting several candidates and let fans vote for the one so we are assured its not someones nephew doing it.

That is one thing I really enjoyed about the WAC. Their website was really easy to use and I never really struggled to find info. The SBC site, on the other hand, does leave something to be desired. These kind of things effect perception nowadays. I would hope they roll out something better soon. I think the SLC's website is also better.

Agreed, as I stated in a different post on a different thread, my beef with the SLC was their focus on football and to a lesser extent basketball left the baseball league, which was their most competitive nationally, at a distinct disadvantage. I hope the SBC realizes what they have and don't focus so much on football that other things (basketball?) fall behind.

BTW, The administration is now talking of improving our basketball arena by removing a wall that will take seating capacity to 10,000.

Nothing like flaming the rivalry flame. Coach Scott Cross is 7-4 all-time against Kaspar, including 4 in a row (4-1 at home, 3-2 on the road and 0-1 on a neutral court). I hope Danny continues to do what he does.

But to answer: Georgia Southern is the "REAL" GSU when it comes to football.

It is best to refer to GA State as simply: GaSt - OR - GAST or GSt. They even took the GSU off of their helmets. If you see a score that list only GSU then if the GSU listed lost the game = GAST. If the GSU won the game it is probably Georgia Southern.

But officially I think we should issue a statement and declare that people even on a message board should have to type out the word "Southern" when referenceing Georgia Southern.

It should have to be GA Southern (Trademark!) or "Southern Eagles" or "Georgia Southern Bald Eagles". But people shouldnt be allowed to use on 3 letters to label our University. 03-lmfao

In addition to CaliforniaCajun's point. Why would the Louisiana schools call you Southern? We are very familiar with a school around here that is actually named Southern, and they aren't eagles.

Again, about the last paragrah:

[Image: sarcasm_sign_xd_by_insane_kitty_blood-d4oonz5.jpg]

Did you miss the memo thread from the UL-Lafayette people demanding everybody use the full name of ther city?

Well your posts are often filled with ridiculous nonsense, so its a bit hard to tell what is sarcasm and what isn't.

And yes I saw the memo thread. Seeing your interpretation of it tells me that you struggle a bit in the reading comprehension department. "Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns is the nickname of the University's athletic teams. Teams also may be referred to using shorter versions of that nickname." Are you so pressed for time or lacking in keyboard skills that you can't type out Louisiana or Cajuns? Or are you just an idiot?

Evans has joined the select ranks of Major League Baseball scouts with the Seattle Mariners.

I just got the new issue this week, have not read it yet.

Yeah, losing to an FCS team is bad mojo.

In fact I hope y'all don't schedule them unless they really suck.

Not bashing on GaSta but they completely messed up this idea. They scheduled three mid major FCS teams in Samford, Chatty and Jax St. All three will field competitive teams at the FCS level next year.

Don't be so hard on them. They seem to be GA Southern's arch enemy. We get that. Also, everyone is not completely sold on GA Southern's admittance as they are on Appy State's. GSU will become a viable member in time, count on it.

There wasnt much we could do schedule wise. If we scheduled Campbell, Savannah State and Moorehead State people would still be pointing at us for going the easy route. We also have WVU and Bama sandwiched in there so it will be a long year by October. At least the coaching staff is aware of it and are on the road as we speak visiting JUCOs in the Midwest and California. The major problem we have is that this team was recruited for FCS unlike USA and UTSA. Lots of issues with depth. I expect that several of the partial scolly kids will not be upgraded to full schollys this Summer/Fall. Its a tough decision to make but we need those scholarships to go to JUCOs for '13 and FBS transfers for '14. We will get there, but this staff impressive though it might be has a mess on their hands and an AD who has never been a football school AD isnt helping. Fortunately CTM has turned around an even tougher program in the past.

The way I see things, GSU belongs to Georgia State. They were here first and it works better for them as "?SU" is most often a Blah Blah "State University." I think Georgia Southern is a much cooler name anyways, so ya'll should use, " Ga Southern, GaSo, and Southern" on SunBeltbbs.com.

I feel people have been and will continue to think and post like this anyways, so there's no point in fighting it. That will simply frustrate and anger those in your fanbase who choose to take it personally, even though that won't be the aim of those who post it. Ask the Louisiana fans.

Well maybe "here" as in The Belt, but we have been playing football as GSU a lot longer than the panthers. Hope everyone understands that I dont care that they use it except for the fact that we have been embarrased by association of the letters. From our point of view, if th ticker says .............GSU 3 Sav.St. 24......... Almost every football fan in this state outside of down town Atl. thinks that Savannah State is beating the snot of us! Which "aint NEVER HAPPANED". So - we can use it or not, I don't care - but I hope they dont use it. Hopefully they will start winning games and it wont matter so much in the future. I'd agree to have us both stop using it.

It "may" help recruiting and provide a little confidence but relevance from a marketing standpoint is most significant. Their histories will be the focus of any media campaign to hype the games and jazz the fan base. Hopefully creating more interest keeping attendance numbers where they have been. GS may benefit more from the Erk movie scheduled to be released in 2014. Please don't take this as another blowing our own whistle post. The reality of the challenge ahead is starting to set in and we need all the help we can get. Attendance is a critical component obviously and has been mentioned as a potential negative with all the new members. Hopefully we can keep the momentum and be an asset from this regard. The benefit may be temporary but should get us off to a decent start.

You should leave FCS behind in marketing and recruiting. Your opponents will do that for you. In fact you will find that it is actually pretty hard to shake off.

I dont think we need to shake it off. Our tradition is winning and we have no plans to change that. It will cotinue to be a source of name recognition and a plus in recruiting.

And I dont get why anyone would question our attendance or see it as a weak point since we average near the top of the SBC now. That is with teams that really dont travel maybe 100 fans. Our numbers will sky rocket at Our House with the FBS move. Not only from local people who will be excited about the move, but as SBC members have to travel more fans, don't they? Our fans will travel well. The Eagle Nation will represnt - dont worry about that!

If the question is about your fans coming to your own games against us then this could be an internal issue with fan support that you guys need to deal with. I know one program that is going to see attendance hit the tarp roof for their home games against us!Southern is bound to create some good rivalries immediatley as we expect to be "IN" everygame from the begining. We wont win them all and we might get handed an occasional beat down if the ball bounces the wrong way at times, but I think we are going to put the fear "of God" in some programs that might escape with a narrow win or two. Those kind of games will breed rivalries. 04-cheers I know some of you are rolling your eyes right now, but you can look forward to some good games in 2014 with an Eagle Nation presence that will be felt, seen and definitely heard!

And if you are going to warn programs about losing to FCS teams, you might want get on the horn with dowtown atl. kittens. Samford will not be a pushover this year. They do have a lot of potential though and have hired a good coach so I expect some improvment. I have a hard time seeing any reruiting advantage of having to live in downtown Atlanta for four years over some of the more rural and much more beautiful campuses so while they have potential of big city $, that life aint for everybody. But when comparring them to UNNC, I dont think the 49'ers have any in city program to compete with like GaSt does and that could be big. They have the same challanges with an in city NFL and NBA team though I guess. Isn't there an NBA team there? I'm not really sure as I cant make myselft watch a basketball game, but i'm pretty sure they have one. Hope they out perform UNNC by a mile though! Go you gast panters! Dang that felt funny to type!

I'm so ready for this. Wish we didnt have to wait 16plus months to get into the mix.

A lot of people aren't crazy about them and most of those people think only of football, but they are a good add. They will get better in football!! And their Olympic sports are pretty good. I suspect they will come in and compete for Bubas Cups right away. That might surprise some folks, but they will be near the top. Their tennis is good. Their golf is good. Their track programs are good. Their basketball isn't as bad as they played last year and I imagine they will rebound (no pun intended). Their football will get better. Overall they are probably one of our best additions. If their football was better they'd be the "darling" of the adds. Hopefully they can improve football and help us build the conference.

They catch a lot of crap but they have a lot of potential. They at least have as much potential as Charlotte and at least have enough of a head start on them to have figured out just how tough FBS is actually going to be. If they ARE able to pull it together they'll be a real asset to the league.

I've actually been toying with writing something to do with this. I know i'm a GSU fan, but i still think sometimes some perspective is necessary; we've had three seasons so far, all by the same coach. The first was acceptable, the second went downhill (in a major way), and the third was dismal (although i believe the second season was as bad if not worse as the talent level was much lower). But with that being the case, it's not a surprise that our attendance has been poor. Do we expect to be bad for ever? Not at all, we've changed coaches and we can finally start to pick up some of that FBS tallent. At worst it can only be like we're starting over again but at the FBS level, give us a couple of years and i'm certain we'll be at the same level or higher than some of these move ups. As bad as we've been these past three seasons, the odds are with us, and as we start to actually become competitive the fans and crowds will grow.

I'm sorry but which school is GSU, GA State or GA Southern? How do you identify each other?

That's funny right there coming from a ULL guy 03-lmfao

I'm assuming you are just 05-stirthepot

03-lmfao

Yep, GSU got here first GaSo second.

Its an acronym...

Congratulations... 07-coffee3

What a pecker headed sOM - beach!

I cant believe you even went back into trying to explain that load of crap again! Yea - I understand it. AINT GONNA TYPE IT - ULL dude!

After a post like that I'll probably goto LALA or "laughE-Et" 04-chairshot

And you must be confusing me with someone else with "your posts are often filled with ridiculous nonsense" - I guess if you can't read then it might confuse you.

Go back and tell the Water Boy to be ready to play some FOOSEBALL very soon - Because you boys are in for some "Southern Hospitality" in a season or two.

Your record against Universities that are on the FBS level AT THE TIME THAT YOU PLAY THEM is 0 wins and 19 losses.....period ...you are not even on our radar......
