Obviously the public thinks differently than the people on this board. I mean, 5,000 people showed up for our spring game last Saturday. The average prior to this year was 1,500. People in Murfreesboro are very excited to be in CUSA. I believe Troy would accept an invite to CUSA without hesitation if invited. CUSA is a better conference to be in overall. If it wasn't then schools wouldn't move. University officials know what they are doing. Furthermore if you're trying to prove product over perception then what does a whacky FAU professor have to do with product?

Schools are moving because of a soon-to-be-out-of-date TV contract. That is all. The SBC is playing better in every sport but basketball.

Baseball...Football is dead even...S &D.....T&F.....XC....pretty much everything except maybe softball which is also pretty even...

You maybe right but I offer up the following schools......TCU, Boise ST., San Diego State......all did what they thought at the moment was the best and changed plans so who knows what best is.......very difficult to know how to play or with whom to play when you do not know the rules....and the rules on those contracts are changing and the rules with how money is to be divided is a changing.......I just hope it does not lead to the pop goes the music of musical chairs (teams)....this is nutts.

Man, those 100 fans in attendance at fiu is really adding to the value of that conference...

And you still prefer to join a conference that includes FIU and FAU over 30k a game Southern and 50k a game Appy State. 03-lmfao

One of those two guys that attend are bound to bring another friend sooner or later.

So you agree that it will improve?

Funny how some posters here change the direction of their messages on a weekly basis depending on whether they feel they are staying or leaving the SBC.

As for attendance dumb comments....Oh well. FIU4Ever, like to see the pic you have with 50 fans in there.

The other part of the message.....FAU is the worst university.....is obviously true. 05-stirthepot Of oourse, I'm just kidding my ugly little birds' friends.

If UL and stAte go to CUSA then CUSA will have a bigger leg up on SBC.

If those stay then SBC has a good shot at continuing to challenge CUSA.

The two versions of the two conferences are very different in those cases so it makes sense that the discussions of them would be about different outcomes.

Yeah, but even with that bad being so bad, JMU fans prefer which of the two conferences?

It really depends on who you ask, some perceive the Mac as better than cusa or sbc.
Most would prefer cusa just because its next in line for an AAC spot.
Until our admin gets their heads out of their asses, it doesn't matter. They need to show intuitive or they're going to lose their fan base.

I can't disagree that fau is the worst university in the universe. I would have posted a link to this article myself but the resident protector of all things owls would have moved it. I hope the local SBC moderators have at least some say as to what can stay on their boards. Go F I U!

Yet the JMU fans can poke fun at FIU/FAU and C-USA yet we are on the train and pulling away and James Madison aint even made it to the station. A few more mediocre hoops seasons and noone is really going to care about JMU, one way or the other.

It's difficult to forecast what sort of conference CUSA will become. They've replaced a couple of teams as well....and with a strategy that hasn't necessarily been sports based.

The point is that the gap between CUSA and SBC performance-wise is the smallest it has ever been. How that plays out is anybody's guess.

There seems to be some hackles raised amongst some CUSA members that we aren't that concerned about our chances if the lineups remain the same. Not sure why. We've had our shots on the field against current CUSA members and it has turned out okay for us. People showing me a uniform patch and insisting they are better doesn't really change what I've seen.

What are you talking about? I said that the SBC was outperforming CUSA in non basketball sports currently. I didn't mention App at all, let alone try to take credit for the conference's prosperity.

But yes, thank you. If it wasn't for CUSA taking the deadweight of the SBC, it would not have been possible for App St to join. I'm sure your 15 fans are very excited.

Oh please. FAU isn't the only school with a nut-job professor who says crazy things to draw attention to themselves. I'm not disputing that FAU's had a run of bad press lately, but looked at individually, the issues are so minor that usually they wouldn't make the news. Calling the University the "worst in America" is just so unfair. This guy is obviously a crazy person who just happens to have tenure which makes him hard to get rid of. The school has done all they legally can to distance themselves from him and his comments.

As for the "Jesus-stomping" thing, a lot of it has gone mis-reported. The professor didn't create that exercise..it was from a textbook. From an article explaining the assignment:

Quote:"This exercise is a bit sensitive," the lesson says, "but really drives home the point that even though symbols are arbitrary, they take on very strong and emotional meanings."

The manual told teachers to have students write "Jesus" on a piece of paper, then put the paper on the floor and "think about it for a moment. After a brief period of silence, instruct them to step on the paper. Most will hesitate. Ask why they can’t step on the paper. Discuss the importance of symbols in culture."

It's a lesson desgined to provoke a discussion, not show disrespect to anyone. It's obviously effective. It has been used at other schools for years, except this time, some kid got upset and threatened the teacher and the whole issue got blown out of proportion.

I think the professor stepped outside the curriculum and tried to get them to actually stomp it when the book said to just have them hold their foot over it as if they were going to stop it. Probably not out of evil intent.

A dumb exercise in any event.

Well, I have no idea how the assignment was presented in class. I just know that the excerise has a purpose and it is obviously effective. I wouldn't consider it dumb....perhaps not all that well executed by this particular professor. It's supposed to provoke a reaction and a discussion. In this case, it worked a little too well. The student (who, by the way, has two arrests in his past) was offended and threatened the teacher, which set off all the nonsense that followed.

Anyway, my point was that the article referenced in the thread is terribly unfair. This "Jesus incident" and the ramblings of a crazy professor on some blog that doesn't deserve any attention in the first place, are isolated incidents that don't represent the school as a whole. Would you want your school defined by the actions of a handful of individuals? There are plenty of positive things happening at FAU (and I'm sure at all Universities) that don't get any attention at all.
