Statement from MU Athletics RE: DeAndre Kane
Marshall’s Kane Will Not Return

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Junior guard DeAndre Kane will not return to the Marshall men’s basketball team for his senior season.

“After meeting with DeAndre, I have decided it is in our program’s and his best interest that he seek opportunities elsewhere,” said head coach Tom Herrion. “We appreciate his contributions to our team and wish him the best in his future.”

What a shame.

Herd basketball won't even be a middle pack CUSA team now.

Gonna be a long basketball season.

Here's hoping Herrion pulls off a miracle.

Are the Illinois rumors true? Or is he going pro in Europe?

Also, for anyone who cares, he was a 4th year junior and has already received his degree.

Put in a call to Chris Crawford. According to his mt.org tweet stalkers, he's as good as gone from Memphis.

I think the fact that he's transferring is really telling of where he thinks the program will be next season. We might be on the hunt for a new coach by next march.

Kane is graduating in May...so he could transfer and play immediately at another school if said school offers a grad program not available at Marshall.

As long as the football team performs this fall, I can deal with basketball.

I don't care if no other sport ever wins another game at Marshall as long as football does well.

RE: Statement from MU Athletics RE: DeAndre Kane
I am going back to how I was when I attended Marshall from 01-05. "we have a basketball team?" I am done with Tom Herrion and will not attend another game until he is fired. Go read the press release on Chris Martin then the release on Kane. He praised Martin and dogs Kane. It was HIS decision? What a loser of a HC. He has ruined my enjoyment of Marshall Basketball. And by the way I was told this was not mutual. Herrion decided this all on his own.

I understand being impatient with Herrion, you guys had the 2nd most talented team in the conference last year but the season didn't match the talent.

Perhaps there's something I missed, but why would he tell DeAndre to go elsewhere?

I'll miss Kane berating his teammates whenever he made a mistake.

I'm interested to see how things really played out. Rob Fulford, coach of Huntington Prep, tweeted that he thought it was addition by subtraction.

Guys, if you remember, I told you that one of the Marshall players after the USM debacle in Hattiesburg was acting a fool in the tunnel going up to the Marshall locker room. This player was calling his team mates and coaches every name imaginable and was stating that he would not be back to play at Marshall. This player was DeAndre Kane. He looked to be a cancer to the team to me. It was unbelievable.
