I don't keep up too much with the national landscape. So the ACC will soon have 15 members going forward? That is such an odd number. I am curious why they expanded to an odd (and bloated) number.

Notre Dame is number 15. Officially, they will still be independent in football, but with five games per year against the ACC, they might as well be considered all in at this point.

UAB vs Cincy 3-5 in football (UAB won the last 2)
UAB vs Cincy 10-15 in basketball (UAB won 3/4)
In what sport is 3-5 is better than 9-3?

golf maybe?

okay maybe I was wrong about ECU

RE: SOT - Yahoo Sports: Neither UConn nor Cincinnati ........
We can debate all day and have hundreds of pages on this thread arguing if Cincinnati, UConn and South Florida deserved being BCS schools in the first place but it's really hard to argue how things changed for them for the bad.

Between Cincy and UConn they have 3 BCS bowls with a record of 0-3. They thought (especially Cincy and USF) that they escaped nonAQ land forever just to be back with the same schools they tried really hard to distance themselves. I can imagine how their fans feel, I would feel exactly the same way if UTEP was in the same situation (well we've been in that situation twice but neither the WAC nor C-USA had the BCS autobid which is the point here). UConn has a national basketball program, Cincy's good as well and they were part of the best basketball conference in the county, UConn won the NC three years ago and they lost basketball powers like Syracuse, Louisville, Pitt, Georgetown, etc. Yes, Temple and Memphis help in basketball but basketball will never be the same for UConn and Cincinnati.

Outside of Memphis and Temple, how many NCAA Tourney bids Houston, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, UCF, USF and ECU have in the last 10 years? Probably four or five combined? How many BCS bowls did the new schools make? Now compare it to what they lost. Not a pretty picture.

Not sure what you are referring to but Tulane is 11-3 vs Cincinnati and ECU is 12-5 vs Cincinnati in football.

Belief up here is that UC got skipped over because attendance issues in football and the fact that both Nippert Stadium and 5/3rd Arena are basically falling apart.

BCS conferences are greedy. I don't think we've seen the end of this; realignment yes, expansion no. The big boys will always look to expand their markets. In a few years one conference will start to fall behind and look to shore-up their numbers by expanding into new markets. Somebodies going to grab USF or UCF, there are just too many people there; UConn probably has a pretty good shot too.

May take a while to digest all the movement which has recently occured but things rarely stay the same.

Cincy had a few good years but I would not put them above anyone else in the aac. I think they are all about even.

Anybody not in the 'big 5' conferences is getting screwed. We're all in this together.

As a UC fan, it sucks because UC did all of the right things and were in the 'club' and had it taken away from them. They didn't do anything wrong - they invested in facilities, they won at the highest level. UC, like UConn and USF, were the last 3 left (out of the Big East, out of the BCS) in the game of musical chairs.

All any of us can do now is try to compete on the very unlevel playing field that the 'big' 5 and tv $$ has created. It's not going to be easy. And that's the way they wanted it.

What about what the WKU fan said about the facilities "basically falling apart"?

I guess the old adage holds true here; it's better to never have had money than to have had it and lost it.

Not sure about that.

5/3 is definitely the most neglected facility, but it is far from 'falling apart'. It's problem is it was designed as a multi-purpose facility and compared to newer arenas it falls flat.

Nippert has been upgraded a few times but could stand to use another one, and that is in the plans. But it too is far from 'falling apart'. It's still a great place to watch football but like many stadiums it has issues.

Basically falling apart might have been strong verbage. But 5/3 is pretty bad on the inside. Nippert has such great potential, it could be 5 star stadium.

Pres Ono is asking for millions of dollars to upgrade them beause they are in bad shape. Especially if you compare them to UofL's facilities.

If you compare just about anybody's facilities to UofL's there is a big difference.

I still disagree that they are in bad shape. The problem with 5/3 is it was a poor design from the beginning and is way behind many arenas - even NKU has a nicer, although much smaller capacity arena. 5/3 needs to be redesigned to be a true basketball arena and yes - that's going to require a lot of money.

It looks like Nippert is going to be upgraded with a new press box and suites despite the news of this week, as it should be.

It appears, to an outside observer, that Pres. Ono has missed the boat given fewer BCS and media dollars heading Cincinnati's way going forward.

Fair enough.

I was saying compared to UofL being that UofL is going to the ACC and UC is not (at least not yet). I think that's why Ono and others want to update everything to make UC more appealing to the ACC and the other "big boys."

I hope they do update Nippert. I think it has great potential because of the history and how it's located right in the center of campus.

Full disclosure...I root for UC. My step-dad played football there in the 1960s. I wish WKU and UC would play each other in football or basketball. Would make for a fun time.
