Agreed. Furthermore, I seriously question if UC's large donors will continue to invest into athletics. And finally, I seriously question if UC's fan base will continue to invest in UCATS fees and season tickets.
According to a conversation I had yesterday with the seat assignment guy at the ticket office, so far there has been little movement either way in ticket sales.
The ticket sting won't be felt immediately -- where it'll eventually go wrong is when Nippert is only 50-75% full for the games against the true "who cares" bottom of the conference (SMU, Tulane, ECU, Houston, Temple, UCF) and people sitting start to wonder "why am I making a UCATS donation and paying for season tickets when I can just buy tickets day of?"
Without marquee matchups, you'll get people who were formerly season ticket holders or gung-ho about ticket plans that will start to back off and go game-by-game (so as to avoid the UCATS donation & eliminate the possibility of having tickets to a game they can't attend).
When did UC turn into Alabama? Jeez...

This board isn't a good place to be right now. Some of my fellow UC fans are blinded by negativity at the moment (and this is coming from me, one of the more pessimistic a.k.a. realistic fans here).

There's a good chance that in 5 years UC will be a member of the MAC. UC will not get invited into the ACC or Big 12. The AAC will flounder and UC will seek the relative stability of the MAC. I also see Marshall coming back to the MAC.
I can hear all the UC fans down-playing this distinct possibility but it is far more likely to go down this way than any other possible scenario!!!!!!!

Obviously Critical Thinking is not part of the core curriculum at the University of Toledo.

Relative stability of the MAC? I guess the bottom of the barrel is pretty stable, you can't really sink any lower...

AAC has much greater fan support in football and basketball than the MAC.
Look at the bottom 20 schools in attendance every year and it is chock full of MAC. AAC programs will average 30,000-50,000 for home games. Is there a MAC stadium that holds 30?
Basketball is just as bad. Miami averaged about 1,400 for home games. UC will never play in a conference like that, although UC would be the premier draw in both bball and football. It is a shame that MAC students and Alums
stay at home and watch the Big Ten. There is always a few solid teams in the MAC every year, Ohio, Toledo, NIU etc,
Toledo and OU are the only teams to average 20,000 in the MAC.
Hilarious troll attempt though.

If you're grading conference additions based solely on on-field competition (removing TV markets from the equation), I'd rather have Ohio University in the AAC than several of the schools being added.
Basketball quality has been steadily rising for the last few seasons, football quality is both consistent and good, have a great football HC in Solich.
Too bad they're in the middle of absolute nowhere and add negative value to a TV deal.
