Charlotte fans
Is it just me or are UNC-Charlotte fans way too cocky? I don't know much about UNC-Charlotte, especially since they've never played football(not that I've heard of). Are they good at basketball or any particular sport? The school is under 20k, so I don't know what they're bragging about so much. Other than getting a CUSA invite, have they done anything to warrant a cocky attitude? I looked them up and can only find negative reviews for the school...it's the truth. Just google "is uncc a good school" and then click on all the websites. Nothing but garbage about them. Sorry

This is exactly how GaSt fans were when they joined the FCS. Talked trash to everyone and promised to be the next big thing. After a few losing seasons and losses to D2 and NAIA schools, they're playing the victim card now. I expect Charlotte to be similar.

RE: Charlotte fans
They have 25k+ students.

They have a great soccer program and had a final four appearance in MBB in the 70's and 5-6 trips to the NCAA tourney in the early 2000's.

But I'm not sure why they are so cocky (I know App has its share as well) when it comes to football.

They will either be successful and then you'll really be annoyed or start very slow and disappear. The city of Charlotte really jumps behind a winner, but also jumps off the wagon even quicker.

Well, no one in Merica cares about soccer or MBb final four appearance 4 decades ago. That's not what they brag about. One thing thats been said is "no team in the SBC brings anything to the table" and I can't quite figure out what exactly they bring...other than some easy W's for us if we get to play them.

Guaranteed within the first three seconds of talking to one of them they will start in on their 1977 Final Four appearance. They have had success in basketball over the years, but some pretty rough times over the last few years.

They did draw 13,000 to their Spring game, so that's a good start. For the last 50 years they have been very much a commuter school located in the Charlotte suburbs. I think they are starting to turn the corner on that and football is a way for them to connect to the current students and alumni.

The thing they represent is the "potential" in a large urban market. Whether they can live up to that potential is a very big question. If they don't win quickly they could be swimming upstream for many many years. Of course with their schedule they should do well, but we know how those things don's always work out.

RE: Charlotte fans
UNCc plays the following schedule,
so they have to have a winning season in
2013. Would think they would start 7-0:

08/31/13 - Campbell Camels
09/07/13 - Chowan Hawks
09/14/13 - North Carolina Central Eagles
09/28/13 - at Presbyterian Blue Hose
10/05/13 - Gardner-Webb Bulldogs
10/12/13 - UNC Pembroke Braves
10/26/13 - at Charleston Southern Buccaneers
11/02/13 - at Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
11/09/13 - Wesley College Wolverines
11/16/13 - at Old Dominion Monarchs
11/23/13 - at Morehead State Eagles

I didn't even know some of those schools played football.
Not trashing them, but they are not taking any chances.

Out of that list I've only heard of odd dominion and only because of the CUSA add. Aren't they also new to football?

RE: Charlotte fans
I haven't paid any attention to their boasting if it exists but Charlotte is a basketball school with lots of good history. They've been to the NCAA tournament 10 of the last 25 years, four of those in the last 12 years. They were an original CUSA school from 1995 to 2005 playing with Louisville Cincinnati, Memphis, etc. but left for the A10 because they didn't have football back then and CUSA didn't want schools without football. If they're cocky about basketball, it's deserved. They are beginning football now so any boasting is purely overzealous fans I assume.

Why does it surprise people on this board so much when fans are boisterous and proud of their teams? We are fans, not coach Lou Holtz trying to set up an opponent. People need to get a grip. Nobody is going to give your team deference, and that's the way it should be.

This ^^^^

Proud fans predicting success is evidently a crime or sign of senility in some quarters. Humorous indeed.

RE: Charlotte fans
Don't feel bad, I have only heard of about half of those as being colleges and I live in Charlotte.
Out of those that I knew I had no idea that some played football. UNCc has had a couple of
recruiting classes or time to recruit as FBS so they should clean the clocks of most of those schools.

Reference their attitude, don't think anyone could tell you why. They have some good people also though,
and almost all schools have some real jerks, maybe not as many, but all do.

Think ODU started football back in the 1930's when the Works Project Administration (WPA) under FDR built a clam shell
stadium in Norfolk. Then started it back about four years ago. They are taking their time in doing basically a two year FCS
transitional period to help their recruiting, this is the official one coming up this year.

7 of those schools are FCS. Don't be so sure they'll win 7 off the bat as a start-up.
Campbell - Pioneer
NC Central - MEAC
Presbyterian - Big South
Gardner-Webb - Big South
Chuck South - Big South
Coastal Carolina - Big South
ODU - CAA/CUSA
Morehead - Pioneer

Charlotte should go 9-2 with that schedule. They could go 10-1 if they can beat Coastal Carolina, and I think thats a posibility. CC has never lived up to the potential they have. I know they have only been playing since 2003. But man they play in one of the weakest IAA conferences there is. Coastal Carolina is a toss up, ODU is a loss.

Charlotte lost to UNC 1-0 in the 2011 Soccer title game. Yes olympic sports matter when talking overall athletics.

All of them are FCS or Division 2 or 3, except for ODU which will be basically 2nd year FCS transitional. But the only decent FCS teams are Coastal and ODU. I am figuring they will win the first seven, and if they don't they have some problems, especially having recruited FBS players. They actually could conceivably beat Coastal Carolina and start 9-0, and wind up 10-1. Only for sure loss is ODU. If they were to beat ODU, don't expect that, and went 11-0 then CUSA would need to keep an eye on them.

Still haven't seen a single Charlotte fan say we'd be competitive in football any time soon. In fact, none of the FCS programs going to CUSA have said anything like that, unlike the Ga Southern fans (and App State to a much lesser degree) who think they're going to dominate the SBC from day 1.

Haven't even seen Charlotte fans say we'd dominate anything, although several fans are optimistic about soccer and basketball (following the surprisingly solid season this year).

That schedule will not get them ready for FBS football in 2014. It makes me sick that they just get to jump to FBS because of the city they are in

Ya think?!
Did it occur to you that there is a difference between the most sucessful FCS program in history, and a new start up at a school with little to no athletic history?
Rube.

What about your boy over on the CUSA board posting that SBC teams have nothing to offer as potential for CUSA? That is funny since the majority of the CUSA new additions came from the SBC.
Arkansas State and Louisiana would ***** slap you guys right now without a doubt.
It seems he had better not throw stones living in a glass house.

They don't begin play as FBS in CUSA until 2015, I believe.
