RE: Dylan Coming to Memphis?
Was at the Daisy show also and thought it was a pretty solid performance. Leave it to Dylan to play Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again the next night in Nashville at what I thought was a much better show. Also had a great opening set from the Brian Setzer Orchestra in Nashville. I agree with callemasIsee-em that Bob appeared sober at the Daisy show but not so sure about clean. :) While factual, personal details about Dylan are hard to come by and much has been written and said about him, it's believed that he gave up the hard booze in 92 after 3 or 4 years of steady and heavy drinking. May account for a vast improvement in performances from 93 to roughly 2002, probably the best run of solid shows during Dylan's NET (Never Ending Tour) which started in 1988. That Not Fade Away at The Daisy though was rocking to be sure.

Absolutely one of the greatest concerts I ever saw was Bob back in 86, (my Junior yr. at MSU) with TP & The Heartbreakers backing him up. On the flip side, shows in Nashville in 89 and Ole Miss in 90 were among not just the worst Dylan shows but among the worst concerts I've ever seen. I saw him in Tulsa this past November with Mark Knopfler and he was engaged in the show and had pretty good energy for a 71 yr. old man. He played only (really good)harmonica and (occassionally excellent)Grand Piano...no guitar at all. People expecting to see Bob with an acoustic guitar and harmonica on rack playing letter perfect versions of Blowing in the Wind will be soreley dissapointed. To me, you either get Dylan or you don't. Most don't. As a live performer, Dylan has always done what HE wants to do, he does not pander to his audience. He puts on the show he feels like putting on that particular night. One night may be magical, the next...not so much. I've seen/heard people coming out of the same Dylan show raving about how great he was and others talking about how awful he was and they couldn't understand a word he said. Thats been going on at Dylan shows for only about 50 years. With that being said, if you've never seen Dylan, you should bucket list the show just to do as KRB said, take the last chance to see the Poet of not just his but perhaps every generation. Richard Thompson and MMJ are awesome and Wilco could be the best American band in the last 20 years imho. The date is indeed July 2nd. Saw Dylan/Petty/Dead in Akron on July 2nd 1986 also Little Rock July 2nd 2005 with Willie Nelson. Go Bob!

I saw a couple of the Dylan/Petty/Dead shows in DC a few nights after you saw them in Akron (hot as hell, couldn't believe Dylan wore his leather). Also saw Dylan and the Dead in Oakland in, I believe, July of the following year. The Dead played two sets and then they backed Dylan for the third set. My enjoyment of the Pyramid show (with Paul Simon) was enhanced by the third row, center stage seats. The crowd predictably went nuts on the Stuck Inside of Mobile, With The Memphis Blues Again and I seem to remember that It's All Right Ma, I'm Only Bleeding was especially nice. I loved the intimacy of the New Daisy concert in September of 99. I thought Dylan sounded really good, especially the rockin' Not Fade Away and I always love It's All Over Now, Baby Blue and Maggie's Farm. Shoot, when he's engaged like he was for that show, I enjoy them all.

I never leave a show early, especially when it's someone who is capable of magic, but Dylan didn't seem very interested in bringing any magic that night. I did enjoy Mr. Nelson.

Dylan with The Band a long time ago in the Coliseum. If you are Bob, it's hard to play everyones favorite songs. He would be there for a week.

Tight Connection To My Heart
Emotionally Yours
I and I
Ballad Of A Thin Man.

Ah hell there are just too many.

RE: Dylan Coming to Memphis?
I was waiting on KRB to show back up. Knew that he'd been at the Dylan/Band show in 74 at the Coliseum and was a big time Dylan fan. I and I off of Infidels is a great , relatively unkown Dylan song. That Infidels record has been described as "The Dead Sea Scrolls set to Music." Thats pretty apt. Dylan never wrote in that particular style ever again.

A well known , frizzy-haired reporter at the CA told me that hands down the greatest concert he had ever seen was Bob Dylan and The Band at the Coliseum in 74. I was 10 and too young to make that one. Also just missed out on the 78 Coliseum "Vegas" show that I also heard was really good. My first Dylan show was at the Orpheum in 80 on the Slow Train Coming Tour. Did not know any of the songs but Dylan sang with passion and his band was killer. Jim Keltner, Tim Drummond, Spooner Oldham amongst others. Was not a big fan at the time and did not get all the people hollering for "Watchtower,Rolling Stone,etc.." as he only played new "gospel" material at the time. In hindsight it was a really good show.

Great to see that a fellow Tigerfan like Papajohn was out enjoying the road and some great music back in the summer of 86. Hats off to you sir. Hope to catch up with ya'll on July 2nd.

Caught Dylan at Tunica a couple of years ago. Small venue, but the show was GREAT. He seemed both sober and straight. Naturally Highway 61 Revisited brought down the house.

One of my fave albums is Desire.

Infidels and Empire Burlesque are two of my favorite albums. Yes the Dylan, Band concert was one of the best I've ever seen.
